Current Situation: Cool, moist weather over the past several days has reduced fire intensity, allowing crews to engage the fire directly along its perimeter. Firefighters have made substantial progress, increasing and strengthening containment lines. Today, operations will continue to focus on the north edge of the fire. The remainder of the fire area is being evaluated for suppression repair; work that restores areas affected by firefighting actions. Typical repair efforts include rehabbing handline and dozer line to reduce soil erosion and prevent those lines from becoming unauthorized motorized routes.

Safety: Public and firefighter safety remain the highest priorities. Although crews continue to work in steep terrain with rolling debris, reduced fire behavior is helping operations move forward safely. Please follow all road closures. While traveling on open roads, drive slowly and stay alert for fire traffic.

Weather and Fire Behavior: The fire area received approximately 0.15 to 0.25 inches of rainfall overnight. Shower activity is expected to taper off this morning, followed by gradual clearing this afternoon. High temperatures on the fire will reach the low 60s, with overnight lows in the mid‑40s. Due to the cool temperatures and high relative humidity, fire behavior is expected to remain minimal, with scattered light smokes.

Smoke: Smoke remains minimal due to recent cool, wet weather, and similar conditions are expected today. Visit AirNow.gov for current air quality information.

Evacuations and Closures: There are no evacuations in place. The Boise National Forest maintains a trail, road, and area closure order to protect the public and provide firefighters the space they need to work safely. Current Situation: Lower temperatures and high humidity have continued to reduce fire behavior, allowing firefighters to work directly on the fire's edge. Crews assessed access to the northern edge of the fire today, and indirect contingency line construction continues to the north and west, connecting existing trails and roads as a backup should direct tactics become unsafe or ineffective. On the southern and eastern edges, repair work — including chipping — has begun. If favorable weather holds, firefighters expect to continue direct firefighting operations.

Safety: Public and firefighter safety are top priorities. Despite steep terrain and rolling debris, crews are adapting to the conditions and are aided by the decreased fire behavior. Current Situation: Significant rain, lower temperatures, and high humidity have reduced fire behavior. Firefighters were able to use direct extinguishment tactics on the fire edge today on the north and west flanks. Firefighters continue to make progress on indirect contingency lines by connecting existing trails and roads, providing a backup in case direct tactics are not effective or cannot safely be accomplished.

Additional firefighters from Australia and New Zealand arrived at the incident today. United States and these nations have international agreements for sharing resources, due to their fire seasons taking place in opposite times of the year.

Current Situation: Favorable weather and fire behavior gave crews an opportunity to get closer to the fire’s edge, where intense and challenging fire behavior prevented them from working before. Hand crews worked direct on the north and west sides of the fire. They are trying to patch together the existing network of old trails with hand lines in the steep terrain and using heavy equipment to build dozer lines where the slopes are more gradual. The terrain makes this line construction extremely difficult and progress is slow. Several indirect contingency lines are nearing completion, providing a backup in case direct tactics are not effective. Along Rabbit Creek Road (327), firefighters chipped debris and mopped up hotspots to gain additional containment.
Joining these crews today is a taskforce of 69 fire personnel from Australia and New Zealand. The United States and these southern hemisphere nations have an ongoing relationship of sharing resources, due to their fire seasons taking place in opposite times of the year.

Safety: Public safety and firefighter safety remain top priorities. Fire crews will adapt operations to weather, fire behavior, terrain, and road/trail conditions. Please observe all road closures and keep roads clear for emergency vehicles. Drive slowly and be extra vigilant while navigating areas with heavy fire traffic.

Weather and Fire Behavior: Showers dispersed during the day on Thursday but continued last night into the morning, bringing approximately 4/10ths of an inch across the fire area since the rain event began. This increase in moisture, along with cooler temperatures, moderated fire behavior, with just creeping and smoldering observed in most areas. More showers are forecast Friday night before somewhat higher temperatures and lower RH values return Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

Smoke: Smoke from the Crooked Fire has decreased significantly over the past 24 hours. The forecast calls for continued precipitation, which should keep smoke impact to a minimum. See Airnow.gov for more information.
