Thanks to the Congressional Western Caucus for inviting IWUA to participate in a staff briefing on the challenges of drought in the west. IWUA joined representatives from National Water Resources Association, the Family Farm Alliance and the Colorado River Water Conservation District to discuss how drought is impacting western communities and economies and how Congress can help.

Years like this highlight the need for partnerships in western water management. Local stakeholders, states and the federal government must work together to provide a resilient water future.

In Idaho, this year's drought is having real consequences. Cropping patterns are changing, acres are being fallowed, storage reservoirs are being depleted at record pace, and communities are instructing residents to conserve water.

We are fortunate to have partners like the Congressional Western Caucus working to better understand the challenges and identify solutions

The New York Canal was originally constructed in the early 1900's. To ensure that the canal remains safe and reliable by today's standards, the Boise Project Board of Control works tirelessly through the winter months to upgrade the canal so it is ready for irrigation season.

Years long studies on cloud seeding show no negative harm to humans or environment. Cloud seeding is so safe the process does not even require a permit through the EPA.

05/21/2026

Cloud Seeding has the ability to increase Idaho’s annual water supply by 10-15%. Why wouldn’t Idaho utilize this water supply tool?

05/21/2026

Idaho’s water supplies are stressed. Cloud seeding is a cost effective, safe, and impactful tool that Idaho uses to augment water supply.
