It is with a heavy heart that we share the Task Force will be temporarily suspending its operations as of August 1, 2025. While this decision was not made lightly, it is a necessary step as we evaluate how best to serve our mission moving forward.

The Task Force will remain legally active and in good standing during this transition, and all materials on our website will remain available for the community and our partners. Should you have any questions or want to stay in touch during this time, please contact Board President Dawn Pierce.

We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve accomplished alongside our partners, volunteers & community advocates. This work would not have been possible without your support. Thank you for walking with us on the journey to fight hunger in Idaho. This is not a goodbye, just a see you soon.

Millions of older adults are eligible for grocery assistance with the help of SNAP. Below, the Task Force breaks down a few common myths about SNAP for adults aged 60+ 👇

❌ Myth: SNAP is only for families with children.
✅ Fact: SNAP is for everyone who meets eligibility requirements. In fact, 34% of SNAP households in Idaho consist of at least one older adult.

❌ Myth: Applying for SNAP benefits will take food away from others in need.
✅ Fact: Everyone eligible for SNAP is entitled to benefits, so an older adult who receives SNAP assistance is not taking away food or money from other households.

❌ Myth: Applying for SNAP is too difficult and time consuming.
✅ Fact: The Task Force offers free & confidential application assistance…and our application sessions typically take less than 30 minutes! https://www.mrelief.com/

Task Force Board President Dawn Pierce joins KTVB to discuss the SNAP candy & soda restrictions that will go into effect in 2026. SNAP is the nation’s first line of defense against hunger, and any cuts or threats to the program — including purchasing restrictions — threatens the proven ability of SNAP to help those in need. These restrictions are also arbitrary and confusing for shoppers and grocers alike, which may lead to small grocery stores no longer accepting SNAP or closing.

Idaho SNAP recipients will lose candy and soda benefits starting January 2026.
