👨‍🚒 Shared by the U.S. Forest Service and CCVFD

Hi neighbors! We wanted to pass along information just received from the U.S. Forest Service regarding prescribed fire plans in our area this fall. With fire season planning already underway, these controlled burns are an important part of keeping our forests and community safe by reducing hazardous fuels.

🔺 Broadcast Burn (Johnson Fork Unit 1)
Area: ~141 acres
Location: Behind the mailboxes near Grimes Creek
Timing: One day of active ignition, followed by a few days of lingering smoke
Target Window: Mid-October to Mid-November (weather dependent)
Current Status: Crews are already on-site prepping containment lines.

🔥 Pile Burns
Johnson Fork (261A Road): ~300 acres, north of last year’s burns
Sheep Creek (Clear Creek Summit, 261 & 261C Roads): ~450 acres
Timing: As soon as there's snow on the ground
Duration: Will take multiple days between the two areas, based on daily weather and smoke dispersal conditions

Prescribed Burning (Jan. 2025)
Boise National Forest
Weekly Prescribed Fire Implementation Plan
January 13th through January 17th, 2024

Weather and conditions permitting, fire managers plan to implement the following prescribed burns over the next week. These low intensity prescribed fires reduce the risk of large wildfire potential to communities and other critical resources, such as municipal watersheds while improving forest health and wildlife habitat.
Smoke from prescribed burns will be visible from several locations across the forest. Temporary impacts may affect those sensitive to smoke and may briefly limit access to forest areas or travel routes impacted by the burn. Fire officials strongly advise forest visitors and homeowners to prepare and plan activities around the proposed dates and locations of burns and to use extreme caution near prescribed burns. Area residents and forest visitors can monitor smoke impact at Idaho Department of Environmental Quality’s website https://www.deq.idaho.gov/air-quality/air-quality-index/air-quality-forecasts/
Prescribed fire is always dependent upon weather, and wind conditions, as well as approval from Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ) through the Montana/Idaho Airshed Group found here: https://mi.airshedgroup.org/.
