Boise Comic Arts Festival (BCAF) returns for its 14th year September 5 - 6, 2026 at the Boise Centre. Earlier this summer, Captain Comics hosted a signing for Jaime S. Rich's new comic, The Dogsitter. You can find Jamie, and many other creators, participating at the BCAF this weekend!

Our compost program welcomes a lot, from food scraps to yard trimmings. However, dog and cat p**p are a hard no-go. Pet waste, including kitty litter can contain bacteria and pathogens that don’t belong in your compost. To keep the process safe and high quality, please bag pet waste and put it in the trash.

New Path 2.0 is a new permanent supportive housing community in Boise that will provide 95 homes for people exiting homelessness. Residents have access to on-site support services designed to promote stability, health and independence.

This project builds on the success of the original New Path community which has served 41 residents since 2017.

This year, we translated 10 animal exhibits into Spanish, helping more families enjoy the Zoo Boise, learn about the animals and experience it in a language they feel most comfortable with. Additionally, we installed 15 NaviLens signs, which use special colorful codes that people can scan with a smartphone to hear information, get directions and access content in different languages. This technology is especially helpful for people who are blind or have low vision.

Together, these projects make the zoo more accessible and welcoming for everyone.

Hefty has announced that the Hefty ReNew Orange Bag program will be phased out nationwide next year. The City of Boise is one of many communities that participate in this program, which provides residents with an additional option to divert hard-to-recycle plastics from the landfill. The program is ending due to limited recycling options for the materials collected.

Through the end of 2026: Orange bags will be available for purchase from participating local retailers, while supplies last.

Through June 30, 2027: The bags can continue to be recycled through the program.

After June 30, 2027: Plastic items previously collected through the program should be placed in the trash. If you have unused bags after the program ends, contact Hefty for return and refund instructions.

As we look ahead, you can continue to make a difference by choosing products with less plastic packaging, opting for reusable alternatives when possible and recycling accepted materials in your recycling cart.

We joined members of the Harris family, neighbors and project partners today to mark the start of construction at the long-anticipated Alta Harris Park. Located along Eckert Road in Southeast Boise, the 20-acre park site connects to the Boise River Greenbelt and will offer a variety of new features for all to enjoy.

The park—named after Alta Harris whose vision and determination helped shape the Barber Valley—is a part of Boise’s beloved “Ribbon of Jewels” parks donated in honor of some of the city’s finest civic leaders. The parks are legacies of these remarkable women and their commitment to their community.

Approximately $3.7 million in city funding, along with a $184,000 donation from the Southern Idaho Soccer League (SISL) and $1.5 million from the Harris family, supports the build-out of park infrastructure including new sports fields, pathways, landscaping and the park’s main parking lot.
