The Elk of Yellowstone
In the summer, elk numbers range from 10,000-20,000 head, which are distributed across 6-7 different herds. In the winter numbers drop to about 5,000.
When winter arrives, elk head north to the northern range and Gardiner, MT area. They also move south to the Jackson Hole Elk Refuge in Jackson, Wyoming.
Males (bulls) weigh about 700 pounds (317 kg) and reach about 5 feet high (1.52 m) at the shoulder; females (cows) weigh 500 pounds (226 kg) on average and are slightly shorter; calves are about 30 pounds (13 kg) at birth.
Bulls grow antlers, which begin to grow in the spring and usually drop in the months of March or April.

Due to their cleverness, modern coyotes have adapted to the ever changing American landscape. A member of the dog family, coyotes once lived mainly in prairies and deserts, but now they can be found roaming the continents mountains and forests. They have even settled in cities such as Los Angles. Coyote populations are at an all time high.
These highly adaptable animals will eat just about anything. They hunt rabbits, rodents, fish, frogs, and even in some cases deer. They also happily feed on insects, snakes, fruit, and grass.

The mountain lion is a magnificent predator which roams the better part of the Americas. It is also known as the cougar, puma, or catamount The habitat of this big cat stretches from the Florida swamps to the Canadian forests.
In the past, mountain lions once roamed nearly all of the United States. In the 20th century, between hunters trophy hunting and farmers looking to eliminate a nuisance off their cattle operations, mountain lions were almost entirely removed from much of the Midwest and Eastern U.S.
