🚨 Big week ahead for our first-responder community!

From Nov. 2-7, the city of Boerne will host a specially-designed 45-hour ceremonial training for honor guards, via the National Honor Guard Academy. Hundreds of law enforcement, fire, and EMS members from across the country will participate, including 24 from Kendall County.

The curriculum covers everything from flag protocols and funeral procedures to casket movements, mock viewings and memorial processions—with the goal of preparing teams to serve their community with precision and dignity.

We’re also proud to share that Deputy Fire Marshal Juan Cardona will be attending the class—adding his expertise and commitment to our region’s honor-guard capabilities.

Boerne will welcome dozens of law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel from across the country next week, Nov. 2-7, for training with the National Honor Guard Academy.

Winds weaken this evening with light wind overnight. The clear skies, dry air and light wind will allow temperatures to plummet into the mid 30s to low 40s early Thursday morning. A few lower spots in elevation may briefly dip to freezing, which could result in damage to sensitive plants that are not covered or brought inside.

Kendall County Residents Impacted by the Recent Tornado

If your residence sustained damage from last weekend’s tornado, the first step is to contact your insurance company.

We also encourage everyone to complete the TDEM iSTAT (Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool). This tool helps state and local emergency management officials identify and understand damages from recent natural disasters across Texas.

🔹 Click the link in the instructions for “General Incident Damages or Losses.” https://damage.tdem.texas.gov/
🔹 Complete one (1) iSTAT per impacted residence.
🔹 Include photos of any damage whenever possible.

➡️ Completing the iSTAT is not mandatory, but it provides valuable information to help us monitor and assess the tornado’s impacts within our community.

You can share this QR code or link with anyone affected to help ensure all damages are documented and reported properly.

⚠️ Critical Fire Danger Over the Next Few Days ⚠️

A cold front moving through the area today will bring strong winds and low humidity from this afternoon through Wednesday, resulting in elevated to critical fire weather conditions.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for most of the region, excluding areas along the Rio Grande, beginning 2:00 PM today through 7:00 PM Wednesday evening.

Residents are urged to take precautions:

Avoid all outdoor burning.

Secure loose objects and holiday decorations that could be blown away.

Properly dispose of ci******es and matches.

Follow all local burn bans currently in effect.

These weather conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly. Please remain vigilant and help prevent wildfire incidents in our community.

🌪️ Tornado Update – Kendall County 🌪️

On Friday night, Kendall County experienced a confirmed EF0 tornado in the West Kendalia area. As the storm crossed FM 3351 and moved toward the Comal County line, it intensified briefly to an EF1.

✅ Good news: Our office has had no reports of damage or injuries related to this incident.

Our thanks go out to the National Weather Service and all local responders who monitored the situation closely. We encourage residents to stay weather-aware as we move through the season and ensure you have multiple ways to receive alerts.

We recently conducted a storm survey and concluded that an EF-1 tornado occurred on the night of October 24, touching down near Kendalia and tracking east along FM 306, impacting neighborhoods just north of Canyon Lake.

Saturday, October 25, 2025

- Winds: Southwest at 5–10 mph, gusts up to 20 mph
- Rain: Showers and thunderstorms likely in the morning, with a 70% chance of precipitation

After the Front Passes

Expect a drier, cooler, and less humid pattern to return Sunday and continue into next week

Despite short-term relief, the region remains under a “Major Risk” for wildfires in the long term, so continued caution is necessary

🚫 Reminder: The Kendall County Burn Ban remains in effect. Please check the official Kendall County website for updates.

🔥 What Influences Wildfire Spread (Once Conditions Dry Out)

Even though current rainfall will reduce risk temporarily, wildfire danger can quickly return when conditions dry due to:
✅ Wind speed/gusts: Gusts of 25–35 mph, like those seen earlier this week, can rapidly spread fire
✅ Low humidity (

Heads up, Kendall County!

Fire crews are currently working a grass fire in the 200 block of 3351 N. The fire is contained but spread very fast.

We are currently under a burn ban county-wide. Please remember: NO outdoor burning of debris, leaves, branches or brush is permitted until the ban is lifted.

Why this matters:

The conditions are very dry. Even small sparks can turn into large fires in minutes.

A fire in the brush doesn’t stay there — it can spread to fences, sheds, homes and wildland faster than you might think.

What you can do right now:
✅ Avoid any open burning.
✅ Keep any barbecue, grill or fire pit supervised, clean, and away from dry grass/brush.
✅ Clear around your home: move piles of leaves, wood, debris away from structures.
✅ Stay alert to weather changes (wind, low humidity) that make fire spread even faster.

Let’s protect our homes, our families, and our beautiful Hill Country. Thanks for being vigilant and helping keep our community safe.
