About
Dr Joseph N Macaluso, Jr, Boerne, Texas; City Councilman District 5·
I ran for the city council seat in District 5 in May 2018 at the urging of a number of fellow citizens, including elected officials and persons of leadership, as well as, other local citizens. Having visited regularly since the 1980's, having family in the region and living here for many years I had a desire to serve o

ur community. My goal was to promote a greater degree of openness and transparency between our city government and resident citizens allowing for community engagement much earlier in the process of reviewing development plans. The decision of then District 5 Councilman Tim Handren to vacate his seat yo run for mayor, allowed me to consider offering myself again for this council seat. I hope that I will live up to your expectations. Having lived full time in Boerne for 17 years now, I look forward to continuing to serve our city as we work on the major issues facing us. The other council members, our mayor, city manager, city staff and citizens as well as county and school district are all key partners in this work. This year I was privileged to be asked to join the initial Hill Country Alliance Leadership Group. 20 leaders (county judges, mayors, council members, city managers, ground water board members etc) were asked to join. I am the only representative of Boerne government asked and one of two from Kendall County invited (Commissioner Wisian is the other). Boerne is a great place to live and a wonderful community. Preserving our quality of life is the challenge for us all. A challenge that we must continually strive to meet.

What started on the playing field has extended far beyond sports, creating friendships and fostering understanding – for one Boerne police officer it is sending him to Minnesota. YOU'VE PROBABLY SEEN HIS WORK WITHOUT REALIZING IT 👏

Chris Shadrock, the City of Boerne's Communications and Civic Engagement Director, was recently recognized as one of just four finalists nationwide for the National Association of Government Communicators Rising Star Award.

From MyBoerneNews.com to emergency alerts, city project updates, videos, and public information campaigns, Chris and his team help keep residents informed about what's happening around town.

The department also received a Texas Award of Honor for its communication campaign surrounding Boerne's trash and recycling collection changes.

Pretty cool to see a local Boerne team receiving recognition at both the state and national level.
