In 2024, Mississippi County had 217 true cases of child abuse. In recognition of April being Child Abuse Awareness month, Blytheville Police Department, in partnership with Arkansas Crimes Against Children, placed 217 blue pinwheels on the Mississippi County Courthouse lawn. Abuse, of any form to anyone, is unacceptable. Being a child shouldn’t hurt. To report child abuse, you can contact the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-482-5964 or reach out to your local law enforcement.

I spent the afternoon in Dyess, Joiner, Frenchmans Bayou, and Luxora. Our county has been blessed to not get much damage from tornadoes or high winds. However, several areas have been impacted by flooding. The Dyess community in particular. Some homes have water in them and many residents must wade thru a foot or more of water to get to their homes. Please pray that the Tyronza River will start receding soon. Judge Nelson and myself have been in touch with Dyess Mayor Ken Gilmore and we are monitoring the situation. Water is flowing over highway 14 going to Dyess and should be avoided. Remember '"Turn around, don't drown"
