“Know that I am truly doing what I love—what I believe wholeheartedly must be done," Staff Sgt. Aaron Butler said in a message to his fiance on his way to Afghanistan.

"I’ve watched the terrible things that these people do to innocent and helpless others and I feel something deep within me rise up and drive me to action against them and their ideals. This is so much more than a deployment for me, it is righteousness against evil, and righteousness must win. And we need the best warriors to do so.”

Today, take a moment of silence for Staff Sgt. Aaron Butler.

PASSING THE COLORS:

“You can walk away today knowing you had an everlasting impact on people's lives, that you put the organization in a better place than you found it, and set the conditions for it to continue to grow and be something even more amazing,” said Col. Brian Pazzaglia, Commander of the 19th Special Forces Group, during his opening remarks at the Change of Responsibility ceremony at Camp Williams, May 20, 2023, where Command Sgt. Maj. Dennis R. Riggs relinquished the colors to Command Sgt. Maj. Randell D. Wingate.

“You are absolutely the right person for the job,” Pazzaglia said to Wingate at the close of his remarks. “Your experience, your professionalism, and your team mentality will enable you to pick up exactly where Riggs left off and continue to push this organization in the right direction.”

A U.S. Army Paratrooper assigned to the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), pushes off the UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter after receiving the go-ahead to conduct his first jump with the unit on January 21, 2023 near Camp Williams, Utah. The red tape on the Soldier's helmet signifies it is his first jump with his unit since completing airborne school ensuring more experienced jumpers can mentor these new members of the community, while affording them extra space to begin to master this skillset.
