It’s a very special month for us at Blue Ridge…. We have been celebrating our 50th anniversary! We were started on March 18th, 1976 by a dedicated group of neighbors after a devastating house fire that claimed the life of our neighbor. From the ground up, equipment was purchased second hand from local counties and eventually the fire station was built. We were honored to host a banquet celebrating members both charter and new as well as so many special guests. 💙

Thanks again to the Citizen’s Academy for stopping by!

The Clarke County Citizens Academy is a program that gives residents and business owners an inside look at how local government works. Participants meet once a month from September through June to learn directly from county leaders, visit government facilities, and explore how different departments serve the community.

This month, participants visited Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Company, Boyce Volunteer Fire Company and John H. Enders Fire Company. Participants also attended presentations at the Government Center from Clarke County Building Official Tamas Kish and Fire Chief Wayne Whetsell.

We would like to echo the beautifully worded sentiments of our friends at Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company. Michael “Moe” Murphy was also a member of Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire and Resuce since July of 2020. He was a quiet but friendly presence with us; the first to pick up a rake when our front yard needed a little love and willingly offering the benediction at our banquet. He truly lived the Blue Ridge motto of neighbors helping neighbors throughout his entire life. We send our deepest condolences to his family, we will dearly miss him too. 💙

As some of you may be aware, we have been battling a brush fire in the area of Ebenezer Road. The fire was first reported around 10pm last night and took crews several hours to contain. Some hot spots remain and the National Park Service is on scene to monitor the fire. A big thank you to our mutual aid partners including Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, John H. Enders Fire Company, Boyce Volunteer Fire Company and Mount Weather Fire Department.
