City of Blue Island Illinois

City of Blue Island Illinois This is the official page for the City of Blue Island, IL. www.blueisland.org

The City of Blue Island was settled in 1835, making it one of the oldest communities in Chicagoland. It sits at the southern edge of a glacial ridge, which is where the uniquely-monikered city derived it’s name – its elevation and resulting surrounding azure-hazed fog made the community appear as if an island in a blue sea when viewed from a distance. Today, the City of Blue Island is known for its historic neighborhood charm, blended business and recreational downtown district, comprehensive community and business development initiatives, and active, diverse and creative residents who enjoy a multitude of events, and festivals year-round. ¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated September 15 through October 15. This year’s national theme, “UNIDOS, SOMOS MÁS. / TOGETHER, WE ARE MORE.”, is a fitting reminder of the strength found in our families, cultures, traditions, and community. Throughout the month, we’ll celebrate the Hispanic and Latino residents, businesses, traditions, and stories that are an important part of Blue Island.

The City of Blue Island extends its deepest condolences to Mayor Fred Bilotto and his family on the passing of his beloved sister, Charissa Berrini.

Charissa was a proud daughter of former Treasurer and Alderman Carmine Bilotto and a dedicated public servant in her own right, having served as an Alderman for the City of Blue Island. Her commitment to the community reflected a family legacy of service and dedication to the people of Blue Island.

Beyond her years of public service, Charissa was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, wife, and friend. Her passing is a tremendous loss to those who knew and loved her, and her contributions to our community will not be forgotten.

During this difficult time, we keep Mayor Bilotto and the Bilotto & Berrini families in our thoughts and prayers. May they find comfort in the memories they shared and in the lasting impact Charissa made on the people and community she served.

Rest in peace, Charissa. Your service, your spirit, and your legacy will always be remembered by the City of Blue Island. 🕊️💙
