Five Owners. One Ranch.
Chapter 4: Chester Lauck
Known to millions as “Lum” from Lum and Abner, Chester Lauck transformed the ranch into a private retreat—a place to step away from public life.
He built the Main Ranch House you see today, creating a space for comfort, friends, and reflection.
This chapter is about reinvention—and the human need to get away.
👋 Our volunteer Docents love sharing how this working ranch became a personal refuge.

Five Owners. One Ranch.

Chapter 3: Willard George

To Willard George, the ranch was an investment in possibility.
He expanded orchards, improved water systems, and built new structures—reshaping the land with an eye toward growth and permanence.
This chapter is about vision and improvement—and the belief that land can be refined, organized, and made to prosper.

Same land. Different dreams.

👋 Today, trained volunteer Docents help visitors spot the changes George left behind—if you know where to look.

Five Owners. One Ranch.

Chapter 2: Jim Jr. & Tweed Wilson

For Jim Jr. and Tweed Wilson, this land wasn’t new—it was already home.
With Indigenous roots and deep family ties, their relationship to the ranch stretched beyond ownership into extended inheritance—a place shaped by generations, memory, and care.

This chapter is about family and love for the land—and what it means to belong to a place long before deeds and fences.

Same land. Enduring connections.

👋 Trained volunteer Docents help share these layered stories every day at the Main Ranch House, the visitor center at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

Five Owners. One Ranch.
Chapter 1: Wilson & Anderson

Before movie stars and millionaires, this ranch belonged to James B. Wilson and George Anderson—two men building a life where water, cooperation, and grit mattered more than comfort.

Their story is about survival and partnership: ranching in a desert canyon, raising families, and shaping a place that would outlast them both.

Same land. Different dreams.
This was where the story began.

📍 Explore these early chapters at the Main Ranch House, the visitor center at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

👋 Many of these stories are shared in person by our trained volunteer Docents, who help bring the ranch’s earliest days to life.

📌 Wayback Wednesday — follow along each week as we meet a new owner.
