We are off to a great start this morning!
The contractor has resumed work this morning on the Pine Street waterline replacement project.
UPDATE: A portion of Wallingford Street will be closed to thru traffic starting now for a brief period this morning.

Also, our Landscaping Department is hard at work planting fall flowers at the front of Town Hall this morning. We will also be doing fall plantings in the decorative containers near the Post Card mural at the corner of Park Avenue. So, if you want to get a great fall picture, check this spot out later today.

Last but certainly not least, join our Police Department and Town Manager for the last Coffee with a Cop this morning, starting at 9:00am at Carolina Coffee. See you there!

☀ It is another beautiful day in Blowing Rock!
We met with our contractor this morning to do a walkthrough of the water line replacement projects slated for Pine Street and Park Avenue. We will be replacing the 4-inch cast iron lines to 6-inch ductile iron lines on both streets. These lines are thought to date back to the 1940’s so they are certainly due for an upgrade. We will also be adding one hydrant to each street as well.

The contractor will start saw cutting the roadway on Pine Street today and continue work for the next 30 days. The street will not be completely closed; however, there will be no thru way while they are working. They will be working in 100 linear foot sections at a time. The street will be completely re-opened each night and there will be no weekend work.

Work is expected to begin on Park Avenue once Pine Street is completed in approximately 30 days and follow the same work plan.

Please be mindful of the work taking place on Pine Street while we work to make these much-needed improvements.

🚸The Town of Blowing Rock received exciting news from NCDOT this morning on the proposed Crosswalk Improvements Project!
It is scheduled to begin this Sunday night, August 30th, and last through Thursday night, September 3rd. This project includes installation of decorative crosswalk surface treatment at fourteen (14) locations along Main Street, several side streets, and Yonahlossee Road. The work will take place during nighttime hours, between the hours of 8:00pm and 6:00am. Traffic control will be in-place on Main Street and applicable side streets during these times. Motorists can expect lane restrictions with flagging operations and/or full road closures with detour signage. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the work area(s) if possible, during these times. If alternative travel routes are not feasible, motorists should expect minor delays within the work zone. Each work location will be open to the public and motorists by 6:00am each morning.

The contractor’s proposed schedule includes completing the crosswalks on Main Street near Morris Street, Morris Street, and Main Street near Laurel Lane on night 1. The second night will include completion of the three (3) crosswalks at the Sunset Street and Main Street intersection and Maple Street. Night 3 will consist of crosswalks on Main Street near Park Avenue, Park Avenue, and both crosswalks at the Main Street and Yonahlossee Road intersection. The proposed work will conclude on night 4 with the completion of crosswalks on Ginny Stevens Lane, Main Street near Chestnut Drive, and the Chestnut Drive crosswalk.

Installation of the crosswalk surface treatment material is temperature and weather sensitive. Nighttime temperatures that fall below 55 degrees, or overnight precipitation, will delay ex*****on of the work. In the event that the project cannot be completed between Sunday, August 30th, and Thursday, September 4th, a revised schedule for completion will be provided as soon as it is available.

🚧Please Be Advised: US 321 Median Construction Update 🚧
NCDOT construction is underway on the median along US 321 in front of Speedway. Contractors have advised that the median will be extended beyond the entrance to the Sewer Plant as part of the project. The work is expected to be completed within approximately one week, with a target completion date of September 4 or earlier. During construction, both northbound and southbound traffic will be restricted to one lane through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution, allow additional travel time, and remain alert for changing traffic patterns. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while this work is completed.
