The Blountsville Town Council and Mayor would like to welcome Blountsville Police Chief Jaye Loggins and Blountsville Fire Chief Jay Wheeler. Loggins and Wheeler were sworn in at the September 8, 2026 council meeting.
Police Chief Loggins retired after 29 years in law enforcement with the City of
Mountain Brook where he climbed ranks, retiring in
March of 2025. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Justice Science from UAB, and a
master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University and is a certified
Law Enforcement Executive with the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training
Commission. He is also a graduate of the Alabama Public Safety Leadership Academy
and has completed several FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association
courses. Loggins is married to Shelly; the couple have three daughters and reside in
Blount County.
Fire Chief Wheeler also works for the City of Fultondale and will continue to serve their department as a fireman and medic. He is a paramedic instructor and holds an associate’s degree from Jefferson Sate Community College, and a bachelor’s degree from UAB. He is a certified Fire Fighter I and II and holds a National Registry Paramedic Certification with the state of Alabama. Wheeler is also a certified Critical Care Paramedic, certified Flight
Paramedic, and certified Smoke Diver. He and his wife, Jordyn, have two children and
reside in Blount County.
