These photo’s show the working relationship among the 3 fire departments on the south side of the river.
All three departments have spent the past several months working together submitting a regional grant application through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to replace every breathing apparatus owned by our departments. Today, after all the hours spent on paperwork, phone calls, text messages and emails (some good some not so good) we were able to distribute everyones new equipment to each department. The regional grant award from AFG hosted by Blounts Creek Fire Department included Aurora VFD and Chocowinity Fire Department to replace well over 1 million dollars in airpacks and are top of the line in today’s market and meet current NFPA standards.
We would like to show our appreciation to Rhinehart Fire Services for working with us through the order / delivery process and for coming to our station the past 2 days and setting these new units up for service.

The equipment includes:

85 Scott 4.5 X3 Pro packs
170 4500psi carbon fiber 30 min bottles
111 AV 3000 masks
75 voiceamps
6 RIT packs with 60 min bottles
3 Fast Attack RIT packs with 30 min bottles
And a new 4 bank 6000 psi compressor / fill station identical to whats pictured. (The fill station is due for delivery in a couple of weeks)

This evening we worked with some of our newer members on pump operations utilizing our rapid attack mercury nozzles.
This specially designed nozzle gives us a lightweight and quick deployable nozzle option that can flow up to 500 gpm completely unmanned. We keep 2 of these nozzles pre-connected to 250’ of 2.5” hose on both of our front line pumpers to deploy for different scenarios.

This morning our members were out working on setting up and flowing static water points for our upcoming ISO Inspection by the state in July.
We have strategically identified multiple water points throughout our district that we can utilize in the event of fires where large volumes of water may be needed. Pictured is Engine 20 flowing around 1500 gallons per minute at different sites.
Next we have plans to install dry hydrants throughout these locations to better position us for using these static sources.
Our ISO Inspection is an important part of your fire department where we are inspected by the state in several areas such as equipment, training, manpower, water, communications etc etc. Departments are graded on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the best rating and 10 as having no fire protection. Our last inspection 5 years ago we were able to lower our rating from a 9 to a 6 saving our residents on homeowners insurance premiums. Our goal this go around is a rating of 5 which is difficult to achieve.
