Blossburg PD would like to announce the arrival of our new 2020 Ford Interceptor Utility patrol vehicle. It will be a little bit before it is in service and you see it on the streets. Here are a few interesting facts about the acquisition of this vehicle.
It replaces a 2013 Ford Interceptor Utility (Car #1) that had over 160,000 miles. In May of 2019, that vehicle was removed from service after a blown motor during a vehicle pursuit.
This vehicle was paid for by Act 13 Natural Gas funds; no cost to the borough taxpayers.
Its a Hybrid! Good for the environment and our fuel budget. This vehicle is estimated to save over $3,000/year in fuel costs. But don't laugh too much, its more powerful than its predecessors.
The vehicle was designed by the officers with safety in mind for everyone. The lighting package enables a slower light flash when along side the roadway to eliminate distractions for passing traffic. Additional scene (white) lighting was added. Reverse seat belts in the transport compartment were added to increase officer safety when securing a person. It also has a HD dash camera system which records on two forward facing cameras with one being a panoramic to record events off to the side of the vehicle.
Yes, we know the graphics are black. During the day they tend to blend in. At night, they are 100% reflective. You'll be impressed when you see them in person.
It's twin will be here in September! A second unit was ordered in January to replace our other 2013 Interceptor Utility (Car #2). 2013 Car #2 was purchased used in 2015 from Wellsboro PD. The second new vehicle is being funded in part by a grant from DCED and other non tax funding.
