Neighbors from all over the 131-home Gentry Honours neighborhood recently got together for a summer block party, and it was a fantastic turnout! Organized by the HOA and neighborhood volunteers, and supported by grant funds from our Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) department, the afternoon event brought together residents of all ages (from six months old to neighbors in their nineties).

The gathering featured a resident-organized potluck, music entertainment, yard games, and a kids' zone with sidewalk chalk and bubble activities. In addition to fostering a greater sense of belonging on the block, neighbors hosted a voluntary donation drive that successfully collected canned food items to support the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Residents pitched in more than 12 hours of volunteer time to handle all the event planning, setup, and cleanup, and all of the reusable supplies purchased with grant funds will be kept by the HOA for future community gatherings. Great job, everyone, and we can't wait to see what's next for this neighborhood!

Looking to bring your own neighbors together this summer? You can apply for a Small and Simple Grant to help fund your next neighborhood project, celebration, or gathering space improvement.

The weekday edition of the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market is back every Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hopewell Commons (630 S. Morton Street). Located right along the B-Line Trail next to the Seminary Square Kroger, this weekly market features local farm vendors selling fresh produce, meat, eggs, flowers, and baked goods, alongside prepared food vendors serving ready-to-eat meals. The open public space includes a live music stage, pickleball courts, ping pong tables, and seating for neighborhood gatherings. To help make fresh food accessible, the market doubles Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, providing $6 in Market Bucks for every $3 in SNAP benefits exchanged. This regular public use comes as neighborhood redevelopment moves forward, including the historic Kohr Building conversion into 38 income-restricted rental homes opening this summer, and the upcoming groundbreaking for the first 98 homes of the Hopewell South housing phase. Admission to the market is free, with bike racks available and direct access via foot, bicycle, or Bloomington Transit routes. Vendor maps, the live music lineup, and transit schedules are available at the link below.

It is estimated that over 2 million bicycles are stolen in the United States each year, which is why the City of Bloomington encourages owners to register their bikes, scooters, skateboards, or strollers with Bike Index, a nationwide, non-profit registry. This completely FREE service safely logs your serial number, photos, and manufacturer details, making it much easier to alert the local community and file an official report with the Bloomington Police Department if your property ever goes missing. Protect your ride today by visiting the link below, and remember to always contact the Police directly if your bike is spotted rather than attempting to recover it yourself.
