Band of Sisters was created in Nashville, TN (name inspired by the book of the same name by Kirsten Holmstedt), in 2015 by female Chaplains as a partnership between the VA Women's Center, Vanderbilt Divinity School, the USAR Chaplaincy and Operation Stand Down Tennessee. We sought to provide Soul Care for female Service Members and Veterans who needed strong spiritual role models and creative ways
of healing from trauma. We Build spiritual resiliency in our members lessening SHARP & EO incidents statistically strengthening the military. It also helps those heal who have experienced trauma, grief and other military hardships. Lastly, it creates rich Esprit de Corps in our members, rarely found amongst diverse groups of female service members and Veterans. In 2017 CH (CPT) Jennifer Lane, a founding member of the group, recently transitioned to Active Duty Army Chaplaincy, was encouraged by the USAGH IRST to continue this ministry with USAGH Soldiers. She wrote a Strong and Ready Initiatives Grant to the Chief of Chaplains Office & it was approved. US Army Garrison Hawaii Band of Sisters was created! Their inaugural event occurred 22-23 Jun 17 at Ft DeRussy Chapel Waikiki Hawaii. 50 Service Members attended the event which included a special presentation from the author of our textbook, Band of Sisters - Kirsten Holmstedt. The event was so successful the 25th CAB Commander Burke and MG Cavoli, 25th ID, commended our efforts at the 25th CAB Leaders Retreat 23 Jun 17. They encouraged us to continue on Mission! Our next event Hiking with Purpose is planned in conjunction with Navy CREDO led by Chaplain Jes Horn.
