BLOOMINGTON – (May 29, 2026) In the wake of April’s severe weather, McLean County Supervisor of Assessments Timothy Jorczak is reminding property owners of the availability of property tax assessment corrections for parcels impacted by the storms.

On April 17, 2026, a system of severe weather that included several measurable tornadoes passed through McLean County, affecting multiple properties in the path of the storm. County staff mapped the path of the system against existing property records to better identify parcels that may have been affected. They recently mailed letters to those property owners.

Dwellings or any other taxable structures that were rendered uninhabitable, severely damaged, or destroyed during the storms are entitled to a pro-rated reduction of the assessed value for the 2026 assessment year. For homes that require a complete rebuild or replacement of structures, there are programs available for homeowners that may help mitigate value increases that otherwise would occur. Affected property owners are encouraged to reach out to the Office of the Supervisor of Assessments to learn about these programs, their requirements and limitations, and how to apply.

“Taxpayers are reminded that this mailing is informational only – not every property owner who receives the letter will have damage, and there may be affected properties that were not included in the mailing,” Jorczak said. “Just because a parcel didn’t receive the mailing doesn’t mean it isn’t entitled to the same benefits.”

In all cases, property owners affected by the storm can visit the county’s website at www.mcleancountyil.gov to access more information and the appropriate forms. The office is requesting that applications be submitted by July 17 to ensure fast processing.
