Better Day Club

Better Day Club We are a place to belong for people living with early to mid-stage Alzheimer's or related dementia. Certified in Music & Memory.

We meet 3-4 afternoons a week for art, music and speech therapies. We have a high club member to staff/volunteer ratio for outstanding engagement. Better Day Club is an adult day program designed for individuals who are having cognitive changes or who are in the early to moderate stages of Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. We know that individuals who are cognitively and socially engaged on a reg

ular basis fare much better than those who are not. Our goals are to provide:

1) Enriching Activities reflecting member interests
2) A fun, safe and accepting place where club members are family
3) A chance for care partners to enjoy some free time
4) Speech, Art and Music therapy
5) Community engagement in environment of mutual respect
5) Program design and facilitation by Cathleen Weber, MSW, LCSW

Examples of our program activities currently include: art therapy, music therapy, community guests, exercise, and friendship. IU Speech Language Pathology clinical instructor and graduate students join us each Wednesday for cognitively enriching group programming and one on cognitive activities. Better Day Club meetings are from Noon to 4 p.m. each Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Payment can be made privately, via long term care insurance. Assistance with accessing Veterans benefits is available. For More Information or to be one of our Community Visitors contact us at 812.822.1217 or [email protected]

So much lobbying and advocacy to be done. In this election year PLEASE keep asking candidates what their specific plans are for funding care and caregivers at a living wage to folks can get the care they need.

For many, Naomi was one of the first teachers and faces for learning to be with people living with dementia. She was a teacher, author, mentor, leader, advocate, pioneer. Our world of dementia is forever changed for the better by her work. Rest in peace Naomi, and thank you.

The passing of Naomi Feil will be deeply felt.
At 91, she died on December 24, 2023.

Pioneering the Validation method in the 1970s, her insistence on ‘understanding the individual’ transformed global approaches to care and activity provision. Rejecting conventional methods, she urged us to embrace empathy as the cornerstone of person-centred care.

As we reflect on her influence and the wisdom we have absorbed from her books, we feel grateful for her dedication. Naomi's legacy, manifested through the Validation Training Institute (VTI), stands as a testament to her enduring impact.

Even in her absence, The Institute remains devoted to honouring her final wish, ensuring that her legacy thrives with the same vigour and passion she exemplified over six decades. Naomi Feil's influence will continue to reverberate, shape and inform not just the practice of Activity Providers but all those who provide dementia care and support.

Thank you Naomi - Rest in peace Xx

I want to share what we are seeing in the mental health world....

At SCC, we are a practice of 10 therapists struggling to meet the needs of our community. Over the past couple of years, our waiting list has grown a mile long and continues to grow.

I don't know of any practice right now without this problem.

The need for services highly outweighs the resources available.

This is our response to this growing problem..... please help us by sharing this post and spreading the word about our new online community created and developed to provide help to more women who may be waiting for formal treatment options to open up or as a stand alone resource in your personal healing journey. We are here to help!

P.S. We had our first live virtual support group this week and it was warm and wonderful with such a great group of women who are seeking connection and looking for you to join them to heal together! ✨💖

It seems that fake news is coming from everywhere these days. This info from our colleague, who is a neurobiologist and author helps sort it out. Also note that the increase in Medicare Premiums this year was NOT because of the Alzheimer drug.

Bombshell exposé in Science magazine and follow-up reporting “make a mountain out of a molehill,” leading Alzheimer’s experts say.
