Delighted to share that we won the Special Achievement in GIS Award at the 2026 Indiana Geographic Information Council, Inc.'s Annual Meeting for our collaborative project with Monroe County Public Library - Hoosier Character!
Hoosier Character is an immersive and interactive website aimed at inspiring Hoosiers to find out more about the history of the places we live, work, and play. Its a living project, with new data being added regularly.

Hey there informed voters of Monroe County!

Tonight we will be posting live election updates for the 2026 Primary via our Election Reporting Dashboard. This will show results as we receive them from the Clerk's Office at both the Precinct and County-Wide scale. The first update should occur after 6PM and then periodically through the night as votes are tabulated. These dashboards are configured for both Desktop and Mobile viewing, with the latter having fewer bells and whistles. You can find these here:

In collaboration with our Voter Registration Office, we've created an early voting data dashboard for the 2026 Primary. This dashboard is updated nightly, and provides historical data to compare past midterm early voting primary results with our current election cycle.

We've taken data from the National Weather Service (NWS) and integrated them into a Storm Damage Dashboard for Monroe County. Here, you can see the paths of damaging storms across Monroe County dating back to 2019, and also see points of damaging impact (including pictures). The data in this dashboard is from a live connection to the NWS, so as new extreme weather events occur these will populate on the map.

How well do you know your community?

The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing project from the US Census Bureau that provides statistical information to help us better understand the composition of our communities.

We've taken these data and integrated them into a new data dashboard for Monroe County, IN. Here, you can view demographic data related to population, the economy, employment, education, and housing across all of Monroe County or at the Census Block Group level. Have fun exploring this robust dataset that shows us not only who makes up our community, but how we are doing collectively.

How well can your community bounce back from a disaster? The Centers for Disease Control's Social Vulnerability Index is a metric that quantifies a variety of factors that present challenges to a community's ability to prepare, respond, and recover from a natural disaster or disease outbreak.

We've mapped the SVI for Monroe County and integrated these data into a new dashboard, that compares the SVI at Census Tracts for 2020 and 2022. Here, you can see how a variety of socioeconomic factors have changed over time, including population, poverty levels, housing costs, access to vehicles, #'s of individuals that are uninsured, and many other factors.

Although we've been working on a ton of cool data analysis projects, maps remain near and dear to our hearts. In 1876, A.T. Andreas published an incredibly beautiful and detailed Illustrated Historical Atlas of Indiana, which we have georeferenced and published into an interactive application linked below.

Our application covers the entire state and is filled with loads of fascinating historical data, from the locations of long lost schools, mounds, iron and coal deposits, property owners, and springs such as those shown in the included image.
