“We have a race problem in America, not a diversity problem in America. George Floyd was not murdered because he was a diversity person.” -Frank Motley

Although the Supreme Court of the United States ended affirmative action, colleges should have a plan to ensure schools adhere to diversity standards.

A message from our President Nicole Bolden:

I join the rest of our community in mourning the loss of Judge Viola Taliaferro. She was a person who guided, mentored, and supported so many of us in various levels of our careers, professionally and personally.

She made the impossible possible when she became the first Black judge appointed in Monroe County in 1995. Her tireless work in advocating for children in our community led to her receiving innumerable awards received over the years.

Because of Black women like her, some of us believed we could, and some of us did.

The Monroe County Black Democratic Caucus expresses our deep gratitude of her contributions to our community, nation, and we extend our condolences to Judge Taliaferro’s family.

Please see the statement that MCBDC President Nicole Bolden made this evening on behalf of the caucus.
