New Illinois E-bike laws take effect January 1, 2027:

Riders must be at least 15 years old for Class 1 & 2 e-bikes and 16 years old for Class 3 e-bikes.

Electric bikes that exceed the legal e-bike limits—(higher-powered/faster models) or e-motos/mini bikes without pedals — will be classified as motor-driven cycles and require a driver’s license, title/registration, and liability insurance to operate on public roadways.

⚠️ Parents and young riders should also be aware: Operating an e-moto, electric mini-bike, or other device classified as a motor-driven cycle without a valid driver’s license can have consequences beyond a citation—including potentially delaying a minor’s eligibility to obtain a driver’s license.

Last week, Bloomingdale Police Officers worked hard to serve the community by waiting tables at Texas Roadhouse. Their efforts raised approximately $1,600 to help support the Illinois Special Olympics. A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this great cause!

Recently, the State of Illinois signed into law Senate Bill 3484, which creates new rules and regulations on “micromobility” transportation, including both low- and high-speed electric bikes, e-motos, electric skateboards, and electric scooters. Senate Bill 3484 goes into effect on Janaury 1st, 2027. The Bloomingdale Police Department will also modify our current village ordinances to align with state statutes.
