Streetscape Trial Run Adjustments Coming Soon
Since the streetscape trial run began in September, a committee of city and county officials, has been gathering feedback formally and informally. Formal feedback has been collected via survey forms at businesses surrounding the square and by written and verbal opinions expressed at city council meetings. Informal feedback has been collected through street side conversations and during group discussions.
As a result of feedback and committee members personal observations, some changes will soon be made to the test.
• Mid-block bumpouts on both sides of Franklin, Madison, and Jefferson streets will be removed.
• In place of the mid-block bumpouts, new parking stalls will be painted.
• These changes should add between 12 and 18 additional parking spaces around the square.
In addition to the changes to the streetscape test detailed above, the following changes to the streetscape plan are under serious consideration. These changes will not be reflected in the trial run due to impracticality, but the committee members are very interested in hearing feedback on these issues.
• Changing 4 to 5 van accessible parking spaces to standard handicap spaces. This should add 2-3 additional parking stalls around the square.
• Lengthening the angled parking stalls from 18 feet to 20 feet to accommodate larger vehicles.
• Increasing the width of the drive lanes.
• Decreasing the width of the sidewalk surrounding the perimeter of the courtyard.
• Curbless street to sidewalk transitions.
Again, these potential changes have not been incorporated into the streetscape plans at this point, but are under serious consideration. Please continue to express your views on these possible changes through the surveys at the stores, council meetings, and discussions.
