The Pulaski Community Garden officially closed for the season on Saturday, 11/15. This garden continues to be a source of enjoyment for residents, free organic vegetable donations to a local food pantry and our own township Farmer’s Market as well as a beautiful place in the neighborhood to drink in with your eyes.

We donated just under 700 pounds of fresh produce this season. If you are wondering what gardeners do in the off season, wellllll, we will be planting garlic this month, we spend the winter months trying to decide what to plant in the Spring, we shop for seeds and we look forward to the February, Garden Meet and Greet open to all 2026 registered Pulaski gardeners.

Thank you for the kind words of support you have sent to the recreation department. Interested in gardening in 2026? Please contact the Recreation Department at [email protected]

Even though harvesting last week for the food pantry was challenging for our volunteers (last of the summer vacations, back to school etc. etc.) we still managed a small offering of 27 pounds of tomatoes. Kudos to the gardeners who stepped in to help with the harvest this week, rounding up an amazing 57 pounds of peppers, basil, squash, tomatoes and get this 10 pounds of green beans!! Thank you for your hard work.

At last week’s Farmers Market, the Human Services department distributed 57 pounds of fresh produce donated by the Pulaski Community Garden to individuals eligible for Market Cash, a SNAP (food stamp) benefit in the form of "coupon currency" used at farmers markets allowing residents to spend their benefits on items such as fresh vegetables. Thank you to the Pulaski gardeners who grow, donate and harvest these vegetables. Post submitted by Amanda Waters, Pulaski Garden Liaison.

Let’s talk squash - The Pulaski gardeners have several different types of squash plants growing in and out of the raised beds. Some are being trained to climb 10 foot stakes or a wall of the fence while others are sprawled out inside the beds eventually making their way over the side of the bed and onto the woodchip walking paths.

This year they are growing black beauty zucchini, yellow crook neck, butternut, futsu, patty pan, kombocha, spaghetti, yellow straight neck and red kuri squashes.

The 39 pound donation to the Bloomfield Church on the Green this past week included some of the zucchini, kombucha, spaghetti and patty pan squashes.

On Tuesday last week, the Pulaski Gardeners donated 43 pounds of fresh vegetables including basil, peppers, rosemary, dill, kale, cucumbers, shish*to peppers, radishes, peas, swiss chard, patty pan squashes and green beans, to the Bloomfield Farmer's Market which were given away free of charge.

Pulaski Garden and the All Star Giving Foundation shared a table at the market. This week’s donation to the Bloomfield Church on the Green (33 pounds) included the same vegetables plus some cantaloupes from a plant which highjacked a ride from the garden compost. Thank you to Sarah at the Oakeside Community Garden for inviting the Pulaski Park Community Garden members to the Monarch Butterfly release this past Saturday t Oakeside!!

Also a big thank you to Luis who facilitated the nurturing, birth and maiden flight of these beautiful creatures. This was truly an incredible event. It was interactive, kid friendly and informative.

Participants lingered after the release to watch the butterflies and to visit the garden.

Since Saturday morning was also a work day for the Pulaski gardener they were unable to visit longer and dashed off to waiting chores. They are happy to report the Pulaski garden is producing big quantities of extra-large tasty cucumbers early in the season and they were looking forward to a longer season of cucumber growth.

This week's donation to the Bloomfield Church on the Green's food pantry was very much a surprise to us because we have never had a bumper crop of cucumbers like what is growing at The Pulaski Park Community Garden this year so early in the season. Twenty-Five pounds of cucumbers were accompanied by shallots, garlic, green beans, celery, basil and the last of the lettuce for now for a total of 59 pounds of fresh vegetables.’ Thank you to our Pulaski Park Community Garden Liaison, Amanda Waters and all gardeners who pitched in!
