At last night’s City Council meeting, a member of the public directed a racial slur toward one of our City employees who was in attendance.

Let me be absolutely clear, this kind of hateful and racist language will not be tolerated.

The employee who was targeted has served the City of Bloomfield and this community for more than 35 years, working under numerous mayors and dedicating decades of her life to serving our residents.

During a discussion about City employees wearing shirts supporting my reelection, this employee simply stated that she had purchased her shirt with her own money. I also want to be clear that I have never directed, asked, or encouraged any City employee to wear a campaign shirt to work. Those who have chosen to do so have made that decision on their own.

Whatever anyone’s opinion may be about employees wearing political shirts during work hours, that discussion can and should be handled respectfully. There is absolutely no justification for responding to an employee with a racial slur.

Political disagreements are part of elections and public service. Racism is not.

This employee deserves respect for her more than 35 years of service to Bloomfield, and I will not remain silent when she, or any other employee, is subjected to hateful and degrading language.

Racism and hate have no place in City Hall and no place in Bloomfield.

We are better than this.

Waste Management cans update:

Waste Management contacted us and said they were able to get all totes last week with the exception of 35-40. They are going to come through tomorrow, Friday, and try to collect those excess cans that they couldn’t get last week.

So, if you have a Waste Management can still, please place it out this evening for them to be able to pick tomorrow.

This post is for Bloomfield residents that have Waste Management for garbage collection.

Remember to leave your WM totes at the end of your driveways. Today will be the last day for collection from WM and they will be collecting those totes over the next few days.

Rumpke will start collecting garbage on Monday of next week. If you have already received your brown Rumpke tote and have started using it, WM will not  collect that garbage today since it is not in their green tote.

Attention Bloomfield residents:

Wast Management will be collecting trash for the last time in Bloomfield on Wednesday July 29th. They will also be collecting their trash bins from residents over a three day period starting that same day through Friday the 31st.

Please leave your Waste Management can at the end of your driveway so that they can collect them during that three day period. Thank you

We are now taking applications for a Maintenance Technician position. All applications can be submitted to Bloomfield City Hall or Bloomfield Water Company.

Addition to earlier post:

We have not yet received a date from Waste Management regarding when they will begin collecting their trash carts from Bloomfield residents.

As soon as we receive that information, we will notify everyone with the collection date, along with instructions on when and how the carts should be placed out for pickup.

Important Trash Collection Update for City of Bloomfield Residents:

The City of Bloomfield would like to inform our residents that Waste Management will no longer be the City's residential trash collection provider.

Beginning August 1, 2026, Rumpke will become the official residential trash collection service for all City of Bloomfield customers.

Over the next week, residents should receive the informational mailer pictured below. It contains important details about your new trash service, including collection information and other helpful resources to make the transition as smooth as possible.

We encourage everyone to take a few moments to review the information once it arrives. If you have any questions after receiving the mailer, please don't hesitate to contact Bloomfield City Hall or Rumpke for assistance.

As we approach July 4th, City Councilman Scott Stevenson has specifically asked us to share with the public that Bloomfield has a fireworks ordinance for those inside the city limits. There are restrictions for aerial fireworks inside the city limits. If you plan to have fireworks at anytime, please contact City Hall for those guidelines.
