Garbage and Recycling will be collected as normally scheduled.

No biodegradable bags will be picked up that day.

Bloomfield Winter Storm Cleanup Update

Following Monday’s historic storm, DPW crews are continuing cleanup operations throughout the Township.

Crews will continue working overnight to haul large snow piles from intersections and crosswalks to improve visibility, pedestrian safety, and traffic flow, particularly in high-priority areas and around schools.

Snow hauling is a slow, equipment-intensive operation and will be completed in phases. Crews are focusing first on major intersections, school crossings, and other heavily traveled locations before moving into additional areas as time and conditions allow. This remains a multi-day effort, and residents should expect ongoing activity over the coming days as cleanup continues.

SNOW REMOVAL REMINDER

*Property owners are required to clear sidewalks, driveways, storm drains, and fire hydrants adjacent to their property.
*Clear at least 3 feet of space around fire hydrants.
*If you live on or operate a business at a corner with a crosswalk, you are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the crosswalk apron adjacent to your property.
*Do not shovel snow back into the street.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 2/23: BOE has extended the deadline to remove vehicles from school lots to 4:00PM, Monday, Feb 23.

Vehicles must be removed from designated snow emergency streets once roadways become snow covered to allow for curb-to-curb plowing. If you have a driveway, please use it.
School parking lots and 209 Franklin Street will be available for resident parking during the storm. All vehicles must be removed from school/BOE properties by 4:00 p.m. Monday.

Garbage & Recycling Update

Due to a notice from our garbage collection vendor,
Monday, February 23rd garbage pickup is suspended.

Residents with Monday service will have their garbage collected on their next scheduled pickup day, Thursday, February 26th

Monday's recycling pickup will take place on Tuesday, February 24th.

WATER MAIN REPAIR NOTICE

Water Main Repair – Montgomery Street & Berkeley Avenue
Thursday, February 12, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Township of Bloomfield Public Works & Park Maintenance will conduct an emergency repair to a six-inch water main at Montgomery Street and Berkeley Avenue.

The southbound lane will be closed beginning at approximately 9:00 AM. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.

Approximately 50 nearby residences have been directly notified of temporary water service interruptions. Impacted residents are encouraged to store water for essential use during the repair window.

Following completion of the work, temporary water discoloration may occur. If so, run cold water from the lowest faucet until it clears.

Bloomfield Weather Alert, Feb. 6–9, 2026
Starting Friday at 9:00 p.m., Bloomfield will experience extremely cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, check on elderly neighbors, keep devices charged, and report emergencies to 911 (non-emergencies: 973-680-4141).
A Code Blue Alert is in effect from Saturday, Feb. 7 through 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, with warming centers and shelters available for those in need.
DPW Winter Operations: Crews are preparing for potential snow, applying brine to hills, intersections, bridges, and school areas to help keep roads safer. Plowing will be done if accumulation increases.
