Emergencies don’t always happen when we’re expecting them. Taking a little time now to prepare can make a big difference when it matters most.

Throughout September, Greene County EMA will be sharing simple preparedness tips to help you and your family be ready for the unexpected.

This weekend, take a few minutes to ask yourself:

👉 Do I know how I’ll receive emergency alerts?
👉 Does my family have a plan?
👉 Do we have basic emergency supplies on hand?

You don’t have to prepare for everything at once. Start with one thing today.

Reminder- The North Shelter at Bloomfield Park will be open as a Cooling Center during the upcoming heat.

Tuesday, September 1 — 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Wednesday, September 2 — 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Thursday, September 3 — 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

If you need a cool place to get out of the heat, you are welcome to use the cooling center during these hours.

Stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat, and check on family, friends, and neighbors.

Hot and humid weather will continue through late week with highs in the mid and upper 90s and max heat indices of 100 to 105 degrees each afternoon. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Thursday. Limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and check on those most vulnerable to the heat.

The NWS Heat Risk is forecast to be major to extreme the middle of next week across central Indiana. The NWS Heat Risk is a color-numeric based index that provides a forecast risk of heat related impacts to occur over a 24-hour period. Heat Risk takes into consideration: How unusual the heat is for the time of year, duration of the heat including both daytime and nighttime temperatures.

ATTENTION HOOSIERS in Greene County and Worthington area, the Indiana State Police is requesting information to assist in the location of Jackie Frye, Age 85, of Worthington. Mr. Frye was last observed wearing blue jeans, a T-shirt, and possibly wearing a hat with "veteran" on it. He uses a cane for mobility and suffers from seizures. Anyone with information as to the location of Jackie Frye is requested to contact the Bloomington Post or Worthington Police Department.

- At 942 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

Bedford, Oolitic, Heltonville, Bartlettsville, Charles Deam Wilderness, Fairfax State Recreation Area, Norman, Harrodsburg, Avoca, Kurtz, Pleasant View, Freetown and Owensburg. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
