We mourn the loss of Joan Meyers Jampel (1929-2026), for whom the Jampel Center is named. Joan was a passionate supporter of preserving the history of Jewish Detroit and ensuring the stories of our community were brought to light. She played an active role in the Archives Committees for both the The Jewish Federation of Detroit and Temple Beth El, where she sponsored (along with her late husband, Robert) the popular Jewish History Detective Lecture Series. The growth of both collections and their outreach would not have been possible without her dedication.

Joan will be deeply missed but we are proud to carry on her legacy at the Joan Meyers Jampel Center for Michigan Jewish Heritage.
