As Mental Health Awareness Month, May is a time to raise awareness of and reduce the stigma surrounding behavioral health issues, as well as highlighting the ways how mental illness and addiction can affect all of us – patients, providers, families, and our society at large.

If you’ve ever seen my right arm, I have a semi-colon tattooed on my wrist. I got this in memory of my brother. A semicolon tattoo is a tattoo of the semicolon punctuation mark (;), which is used as a message of affirmation and solidarity with those who have dealt with su***de, depression, addiction, and other mental health issues. I rock my tattoo for my family and friends that have dealt with and are dealing with those issues!

Ladies and gentlemen, I plead with you: if you need someone to talk to….reach out to me!!! Or anyone that you can depend on. You’re not alone. 💚💛

Love you all,
Coroner Crystal Tolbert

💙April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time to recognize the talents, contributions, and diversity within the autism community. At The Arc, autistic people and their loved ones are a part of our staff, volunteer leaders, and the driving force behind our work. Their lived experiences shape our advocacy at a time when an estimated 1 in 31 children in the U.S. are autistic, yet too many remain underserved.

The big picture: Autistic people deserve full inclusion and respect. Yet, they continue to face misunderstanding, discrimination, and barriers in education, employment, healthcare, and community life. True inclusion means more than awareness. It requires action to remove these obstacles so autistic people can thrive as their authentic selves.

💚April is also recognized as Parkinson’s Awareness Month, which is the perfect time to brush up on your Parkinson’s facts. Here are 5 fast facts about PD:

Nearly 90,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with Parkinson’s each year.
Scientists believe a combination of environmental and genetic factors cause PD.
People with Parkinson’s experience both movement and non-movement related symptoms.

March is National Kidney Month. It's a time to raise awareness about kidney health. It's also a time to share facts about ways to keep your kidneys happy and healthy.

1 in 3 Americans is at risk for kidney disease due to diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney failure according to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF). Over 26 million Americans already have a kidney disease, and most don't even know it because there are no symptoms until the disease has progressed.

It's estimated that 1 in 10 Americans will have a Kidney Stone at some point in their life. Although there is no "one-size-fits-all" diet for preventing kidney stones, drinking plenty of water each day is one of the best ways to prevent kidney stones from forming.

Other common health problems that impact the kidneys are kidney cancer and kidney failure.

Today The City of Blakely Fire Department, Early County Fire Units, Early County Georgia Sheriff's Office, GA Forestry, City of Blakely Police Department, Colquitt Miller Fire Department, Seminole County Fire Department, and Three Notch all responded to multiple roadside grass fires starting at the City Limits of Blakely and extending all the way to Seminole County. We don’t have an exact count of how many individual fires or the acreage of the fires yet but when we say all of Cedar Springs Road was on fire we literally mean it. Thankfully there were no injuries reported and no structures burned. We would like to give a big thanks to everyone that helped from every homeowner, to every volunteer, to every first responder that responded WE THANK YOU. TOGETHER WE ARE A TEAM. Special thanks to Miller County Fire Department and Seminole County Volunteer Fire Rescue for coming out of their response territory to assist us along with other departments that were responding! Thanks to Southwest Georgia Regional E-911 for keeping us informed in the middle of the chaos. Thank you all we couldn’t have done it without each and everyone of you.
