LAST DAY FOR EARLY VOTING is today from 9:00 to 5:00! Your vote matters! The Union County Sheriff's race will be determined on Republican ballot because there are no Democratic candidates that qualified.

If you would like to vote in the Sheriff's election, you must request a Republican ballot when you go to the polls for the May 21 Republican Primary.

During the Sheriff’s Candidate Forum meeting, Doug Loyd made it a point to say how the current election was a disgrace to the citizens of Union County. Additionally, in Doug’s campaign kickoff in November 2023 he called Sheriff Mason corrupt. Doug started slinging mud right then, and now complains when Sheriff Mason put an article in the paper. Doug specifically blamed the current employees at UCSO and their spouses for the disgrace. The real disgrace started with Doug’s campaign kickoff and now continued when Doug spoke negative of the current UCSO administration and employees, many of whom Doug worked with. Doug has continued this type of behavior throughout his entire campaign. Doug further felt it was appropriate to post certain pictures (tragic events) that NEVER should have been posted. Doug’s response was he wanted to show his involvement in the community. If you were so involved with the community Doug, then you would have known the outcome of those pictures and would not have posted them. That in itself is disgraceful and unacceptable. Doug felt the need to post pictures of deputies to his campaign page in an attempt to convince others he had their support. Doug why do you constantly say negative things about the current UCSO employees and administration when you posted pictures of deputies to your campaign page? Is this what a Godly man does? Talk negative about others? He says one thing but does another, and he continues to play the victim.

On Saturday May 11, 2024 there was a Sheriff’s Candidate Forum meeting hosted by the GOP. Both Doug Loyd and Tom Jones attended the meeting but neither one of them removed the Skeleton from the stage. Only one candidate, that person being Doug Loyd, decided he would point the microphone towards the Skeleton for an answer to a question. ( at the 1 minute mark area) After the pictures were posted to facebook, text messages were sent by Doug’s supporters laughing about the mocking of Shawn. People started talking about how they did not agree with the Skeleton being a representation of Shawn. It was only after those posts that Doug’s family went on facebook complaining about being under attack and how this was not fair to them.

Doug why didn’t you request the Skeleton to be removed from the stage? Why did you point the microphone towards the Skeleton? Why did you allow this type of immaturity and unprofessionalism continue under your watch? Is this also the Godly example you live by? James 1:26; If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.

Doug has talked about being on the Board of Directors for SAFE. Doug also provided a letter of a commendation for his role and dedication to the SAFE board. However, what he is not telling you is how he stopped showing up to meetings in 2021 and six (6) months later the board voted to remove him from the board due to his absences. There is no way his injury was so severe he could not attend a monthly board meeting. Let’s not forget, during this time Doug continued to run his lawn care business that consisted of mowing and w**d eating. How can Doug be considered a good leader if he stopped showing up to meetings, with no explanation, to the point that they had to vote him off due to absences? Is this the type of role model and leader we want for our deputies?

* This is the fight that Doug Loyd said injured his wrist and shoulder. This type and level of arrest was also something that occurs more than most people think when taking people into custody. This type of resistance is rather common in law enforcement arrests. However, his injury and first report of injury contradict what he’s been saying. Take a look at the video of the incident and decide for yourself. Since I am transparent, the entire video is available. The video posted with this post is clipped to only show the scuffle itself.

* Why does Doug Loyd contradict himself when he speaks of his injury. He has said several times that the injury occurred in 2021 when he had to arrest a guy in the front lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. However, according to this paperwork, his shoulder was injured in 2016. Also in that first report of injury in 2021, it was only an injury to his wrist and the reported injury was a bruise to the wrist. In Doug’s YouTube Interview Part 1, he specifically said he knew right when he grabbed the guy, he knew he injured his shoulder. If that was known as soon as he grabbed the guy, why was his shoulder not in the first report of injury. Why is the story and the paperwork conflicting. Furthermore, Doug Loyd originally sought to get $145,000.00 as evidenced from his attorneys letter to the county.
* Also, per his settlement with Worker’s Compensation, Doug Loyd CANNOT EVER AGAIN hold another position in Union County, in any position, law enforcement or otherwise other than an elected position.
* Per Doug Loyd’s YouTube interviews, he explained he was permanently injured. Is he still able to mow and do landscaping? Is he able to perform the tasks of a law enforcement officer with a permanent injury?

The training records for Doug Loyd, that were obtained through open records request, shows ALL POST approved training Doug Loyd has had. In addition to the 20 hour yearly requirement, all peace officers are required to take certain classes called “The Governors Initiative” which includes De-escalation, Community Policing, and Use of Force (Use of Deadly Force). These courses are all available online that Doug Loyd could have easily of taken to get caught up and stay current. The question remains, if Doug Loyd had been preparing to run for Sheriff, why would he not make sure his training was up to date and his status up to date. After all, he had TWO years to get current, fully aware he had planned to run for Sheriff!

- [ ] 2021 Training hours obtained 20 ( no fi****ms training)
- [ ] 2022 Training hours obtained 2 ( no fi****ms training)
- [ ] 2023 Training hours obtained 21 (no fi****ms training)

According to Doug Loyds post, the training hours for 2022 have been completed. From the training records from POST, the training hours for 2022 have not been completed. Doug Loyd is 18 hours short for 2022. This directly contradicts what he said in the his response video about having completed his training hours.

According to POST records the actual lapse in training falls under the year 2022. If you work one day in a calendar year, you are subject to obtaining the required training hours. Doug Loyd was employed until March 2022, which makes him responsible for those required training hours per POST. Furthermore, he could have gotten employment in a neighboring agency to get his status fixed. He even could have gotten on as part time. He plans to work so well with neighboring agencies, this shouldn’t have been an issue. He also had the opportunity to attend a retirees re-qualification training that UCSO puts on yearly. He chose not to and that speaks volumes.

There are only two exemptions from the 20-hour requirement:
1. If you are inactive for the entire year.
• If you work any portion of a year, you are required to receive 20 hours of training for that year.
2. If you complete basic mandate in the calendar year.

* Here are the POST records for all three candidates. POST stands for Peace Officer Standards and Training. They are the governing authority over all law enforcement in the State of Georgia. For peace officers in Georgia, they are required to get 20 hours of training and qualify on their fi****ms each calendar year. If any officer does not meet those standards, they loose their powers of arrest until they get current on their requirements. See the POST records for three candidates. Shawn Dyer and Tom Jones are “active” with the basic law enforcement certifications and both their POST status’s are “In Good Standing”. This means they both have powers of arrest. However, Doug Loyd’s POST record shows his basic law enforcement certification as “Lapsed due to training”. Furthermore, his POST status shows “File Review Required”. How can Doug Loyd be ready to take over today or tomorrow if he DOES NOT HAVE ARREST POWERS? How can Doug Loyd be a Sheriff WITHOUT ARREST POWERS? He would not be able to back up any of his deputies or take any real action because he DOES NOT HAVE ARREST POWERS!!
