Yesterday's call marked BVFD's 616th call for service of the year, averaging 3.71 calls per day.

Our volunteers have also spent more than 408 hours actively responding to emergencies so far in 2026. That number doesn't include the countless hours spent training, maintaining equipment, attending meetings, completing continuing education, participating in community events, and preparing to answer the next call.

It was a busy day for BVFD as we responded to 4 calls for service, including 2 medical calls and 2 fire related calls.

The house fire in Herman brought together several area departments, including Herman, Tekamah Fire and Rescue Department, Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue, Blair, and Kennard Fire Rescue, while Bennington Fire & Rescue provided EMS standby coverage at our station while crews were committed to the incident.

It was a hot day, but thanks to the outstanding teamwork, dedication, and cooperation between departments, the job got done safely and effectively. We are grateful for our strong mutual aid partnerships and proud to work alongside such great agencies.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and neighboring departments who answered the call and helped protect our communities.
