Students across Maryland and the Washington, D.C. region are showing some of the strongest post-COVID pandemic academic recovery in the country, according to a new national education report released this month.
Maryland posted some of the strongest gains in the country, ranking third nationally in reading recovery and fifth in math recovery, according to the 2026 Education Scorecard — compiled by researchers from Harvard University, Stanford University and Dartmouth College. The report also ranks the District of Columbia number one in the nation for both math and reading recovery through the 2022 to 2025 study period.
