Special election: Saturday, September 12, 2026

Voters in Gloucester Township Fire District 5 (Lambs Terrace) will decide whether the district may borrow and spend $700,000 to acquire and renovate 1773 Sicklerville Road and the building on that lot.

This is a capital / bond question, not the February budget election. Only District 5 residents vote.

The District 5 station is next door at 1781 Sicklerville Road, on the Sicklerville Road corridor near Freeway Golf Course and Iron Horse Range.

The ballot seeks to authorize the borrowing of $700,000 to buy the land and building and renovate it. It does not state a purchase price, appraisal, renovation scope, or the annual tax cost of the debt.

The owner of the property in question is an elected official

Jennifer J. Storer is an elected member of the Black Horse Pike Regional School District Board of Education (re-elected November 2024). That is public record. It is not a charge of wrongdoing. It is a fact voters can consider when the fire district asks to buy the property.

Rutgers University Research Dean Charged with Invasion of Privacy

Joshua Kohut, 51, of Cranbury, who serves as Dean of Research at Rutgers University’s School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, has been charged with fourth-degree invasion of privacy.

According to New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division of Criminal Justice:

• Investigators executed a search warrant on August 24, 2026.

• Multiple electronic devices belonging to Kohut were seized.

• A forensic review of one device found “upskirt” videos showing another person’s undergarment-clad intimate parts.

• Kohut is alleged to have used his cellphone to secretly record these videos without the victim’s knowledge while working at the Rutgers New Brunswick campus.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Rutgers University has placed Kohut on administrative leave and banned him from campus pending the outcome of the criminal case and its own investigation.

The university described the charges as “extremely disturbing.”

Authorities have not publicly identified the victim or confirmed whether the person was a student, faculty member, or someone else.

🚨 GT United Alert: A Connected PA Developer is Trying to Shut Down Iron Horse Gun Range in Erial

Iron Horse Gun & Archery Club — a private, members-only range operating on the Waddell property off Garwood Road in Erial since the late 1950s — is under legal attack.

Here’s what’s happening:

• On July 26, 2026, the range was temporarily closed “in an abundance of caution” after Bryn Mawr Garwood LLC (formed March 2026) filed a lawsuit in Camden County Superior Court seeking an immediate court order to shut it down indefinitely.

• The principal behind Bryn Mawr Garwood LLC is Harvey Sternberg, a Pennsylvania attorney and real estate developer.

• Sternberg’s company has a contract to buy the adjoining Waddell Property. He has also made an offer to buy the range itself. The lawsuit claims the range is causing environmental harm through “solid waste disposal,” soil stockpiling, and “potentially contaminated” soil — soil that, by the plaintiff’s own admission, has not been tested.

• A hearing is scheduled for September 4, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. in Courtroom 32, Camden County Courthouse (101 S. Fifth Street, Camden). The court will decide whether to force the range closed.

The political money trail (public ELEC records):

Sternberg has donated tens of thousands of dollars in recent years to Gloucester Township Democrats and aligned groups, including:

• $9,000 in 2025 alone to Mayor David R. Mayer and candidates on Mayer-aligned slates

• Additional thousands to Gloucester Township politicians since 2021

• $12,000 total to the GT Chairman’s Club (2023–2026)

• $6,000 to the Gloucester Township Democrat Committee

• $8,000 to the Gloucester Township Citizens for Government Reform PAC (widely described as connected to “Team Mayer”)

Total reported: approximately $44,000 flowing to the local Democratic machine and its PACs.

Meanwhile, just down the road…

The abandoned Freeway Golf Course on Sicklerville Road (closed since 2015/2016) — the nation’s first Black-owned 18-hole golf course — is the site of a proposed 743-unit residential development called Freeway Pointe (single-family homes, townhomes, stacked townhomes, age-restricted units, and affordable apartments). Residents have already raised serious concerns about traffic, schools, sewers, and the loss of open space.

Iron Horse sits in the same Erial/Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township. More high-density housing is being pushed while a long-established local gun club is being squeezed through environmental claims that lack testing — by a developer who has been a significant financial supporter of the current township leadership.

A longtime private range. An untested environmental claim. A pending land deal. And a steady stream of political contributions.

Residents deserve answers. Show up September 4 if you can. Stay informed. Gloucester Township is being reshaped one lawsuit and one PAC check at a time.

Student Safety in Our Schools: Two Serious Developments Gloucester Township Families Need to Know About

Parents and residents of Gloucester Township deserve clear information when questions arise about how our schools handle staff-on-student misconduct.

Here are the facts on two recent matters.

1. Federal Investigation into Gloucester Township Public Schools

In July 2026, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) opened an investigation into Gloucester Township Public Schools (the K-8 district serving roughly 6,600 students).

The probe is one of about 20 districts nationwide selected based on responses to the federal Civil Rights Data Collection survey for the 2023-24 school year. According to the Department, those responses “suggest that districts might not be addressing staff on student sexual misconduct appropriately.”

This is part of a broader federal initiative aimed at better protecting students from adult sexual predators in schools. Guidance was issued to districts nationwide on their legal obligations under federal civil rights law.

At the time of reporting, Gloucester Township officials did not immediately comment. Being under investigation does not mean wrongdoing has been proven — it means the survey data raised enough concern for OCR to take a closer look. No public findings or resolution have been released as of mid-August 2026.

2. Arrest of Timber Creek High School Coach/Aide

Separately, on August 5, 2026, Joel Deanley Jr., 26, of Gloucester Township was arrested and charged in connection with an alleged sexual relationship with a female student at Timber Creek High School.

Deanley worked as a school aide at Timber Creek and coached multiple sports: head coach of the boys’ and girls’ winter track teams, assistant coach for football, and assistant coach for girls’ spring track.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office:

• A student reported the relationship on or about August 4.
• Investigators determined sexual activity occurred on multiple occasions between June and August 2026.
• He faces three counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
• He was held at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

The Black Horse Pike Regional School District (which operates Timber Creek and serves Gloucester Township high school students) stated it immediately removed him from all duties involving students and barred him from district property. The district is cooperating with law enforcement and emphasized that student safety remains its highest priority. Authorities have identified only one victim so far but say they will investigate any additional reports.

These are separate matters — one a federal civil rights review of district policies and responses, the other a criminal case involving a specific individual. Both underscore why strong policies, transparent reporting, thorough investigations, and accountability matter.
Parents: stay engaged. Ask questions at board meetings. Review your district’s policies on staff misconduct and reporting. Student safety is non-negotiable.
