Gloucester Township Police Media Release: Facebook Marketplace Transaction Leads To Robbery Arrest

On May 24, 2026, at approximately 2:57 p.m., officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to Commerce Square Plaza in the 1400 block of Blackwood-Clementon Road for a reported robbery.

Police learned that the victim had arranged through Facebook Marketplace to meet with an individual regarding the sale of a high-value watch. During the transaction, the suspect reportedly took possession of the watch, displayed a large knife, and fled the area on foot.

Detectives from the Gloucester Township Police Department conducted an extensive investigation that ultimately resulted in the identification of the suspect as Oswald Ricardo Whyatt Greene, a 20-year-old resident of the 800 block of Baywood Circle in Morrow, Georgia. As a result of the investigation, Greene was charged with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

On June 4, 2026, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Gloucester Township Police Police officers located Greene in a vehicle in the area of Blackwood-Clementon Road. Greene was taken into custody without incident. Officers also recovered a knife believed to have been used during the robbery. Greene was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Chief Anthony Minosse stated, "This arrest reflects the dedication and persistence of our detectives and patrol officers. Criminal activity of this nature will not be tolerated in Gloucester Township, New Jersey. We remain committed to identifying and apprehending those who prey upon others while ensuring the safety and security of our community."

This incident serves as an important reminder to use caution when buying or selling items through online marketplaces. The Gloucester Township Police Department encourages residents to utilize the Department's Safe Exchange Zones when conducting transactions with individuals they do not know.

The GTPD Safe Exchange Zones are located at Police Headquarters, 1261 Chews Landing Road, and include an indoor exchange area located between the Watch Desk and Municipal Court area, as well as an outdoor exchange area near the front entrance of the building. These locations are well-lit, monitored, recorded, and accessible 24 hours a day.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions when conducting online transactions. Whenever possible, meet at a police station or other well lit public location and avoid conducting transactions during nighttime hours. Never meet in secluded or unfamiliar areas, and do not invite strangers to your home or travel to a stranger's residence. Trust your instincts; if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Individuals buying or selling high value items should exercise additional caution and consider utilizing the Gloucester Township Police Department's Safe Exchange Zones. https://gtpolice.com/community-page/258

The Gloucester Township Police Department remains committed to providing safe options for residents conducting online transactions and encourages the public to take advantage of these resources.

Individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
