North Carolina National Guard Soldiers assigned to 5th Battalion, 113th Field Artillery Regiment live fire the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, June 3, 2026, at First Pickett, Virginia. Live fire continues this week, and nearby residents may experience louder-than-normal booms and experience vibrations.

NOISE ALERT! Please be advised that Fort Pickett will be conducting live-fire training June 2-6, 2026. During this time, the surrounding communities may hear loud booms or experience vibrations. This is scheduled artillery training and is a vital part of maintaining our service members' readiness.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 40 near the intersection with Military Road will be closed for an extended period of time due to railhead operations ahead of the Virginia National Guard's 116th Mobile Brigade Combat Team's upcoming Joint Readiness Training Center rotation. Detours will be posted.

Col. Eric L. Quinn, Fort Pickett garrison commander, and other Maneuver Training Center Fort Pickett employees gather to celebrate Earth Day April 22, 2026, at Fort Pickett, Virginia. Participants planted a variety of hybrid and bush cucumbers, jalapeño and bell peppers, tomatoes and wildflowers at the installation’s Victory Garden to support local pollinators and promote environmental stewardship. Organizers said this initiative reflects ecological health, which is vital for maintaining long-term mission readiness.

Heads up! The Fort Pickett Fire Department will be conducting a large prescribed burn on Fort Pickett today, in the area just south of Darvills Road (Route 40) and just west of Gills Bridge Road. Smoky conditions are possible in the area, please be alert.

Congratulations to Joseph Bozo, who recently retired from the Fort Pickett Directorate of Public Works after 51 years of service as an engineer equipment operator. Prior to his career at Fort Pickett, he served in the active-duty Army. Upon his retirement, Bozo was presented with the Virginia Distinguished Service Medal, a coin from Col. Eric Quinn, the Fort Pickett garrison commander, a letter of appreciation from Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia, and a letter of thanks from the Governor of Virginia. Thank you for a half a century of service!
