Coalition for Justice, Blacksburg, VA

Coalition for Justice, Blacksburg, VA Formed in 1981 as a response to the Reagan administration's support for the Salvadoran government's violent suppression of progressive movements.

The Coalition for Justice was formed in 1981, in response to the Reagan administration's support for the Salvadoran government's violent repression of progressive movements. Since that time, we have come to take a more global view and see that we are part of a larger human rights community where all people's struggles for peace, justice, and dignity must be observed and nurtured. We firmly believe

that the most just, effective and responsible form of resistance, even to the most extreme form of violence, is nonviolent resistance.

Yes!

The president can't overwrite the Constitution and law of the land.

We're reminding the Trump administration how our country works in our fight for birthright citizenship and beyond.

So love those who stood up for the injustice’ that caused the injustice of our fellow Workers who made made the sacrifice for their families and fellow Workers!

Journalist and miners’ advocate Tom Bethell began investigating the causes of the 1972 Buffalo Creek Flood in Logan County, WV in the immediate aftermath. Later, as Research Director for the United Mine Workers, he shared his findings, helping to shape our 1975 documentary "The Buffalo Creek Flood: An Act of Man.” The following year, when the Scotia Mine Disaster occurred, Tom was once again ready to heroically lend his expertise to discover what happened and why.

Thank you, Tom, for standing with coal miners and working people everywhere. We miss you, friend.

White nationalist extremists have long hoped to repeal birthright citizenship guaranteed under the 14th Amendment. The Trump administration is trying to make that fringe idea a reality — with arguments straight out of the extremist playbook.

Attacks on citizens born on U.S. soil — including Muslim families, Indigenous people and the children of immigrants — is white supremacy at work, and we won't stand for it. The Supreme Court must uphold the Constitution.

Let us never forget!

in 1866, the Civil Rights Act of 1866 became law, declaring that all persons born in the United States are citizens and entitled to equal rights under the law.

Passed in the aftermath of the Civil War, the act was designed to counter Black Codes and protect the rights of newly freed Black Americans. It marked the first time the federal government defined citizenship and affirmed equal protection in law.

The promise of equality has been challenged from the start. The work to make it real continues.

, labor leader and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta was born.

A co-founder of the National Farm Workers Association, Huerta helped lead the fight for fair wages, safe working conditions and dignity for farmworkers. Her organizing and advocacy have shaped labor rights movements for decades.

At 96, she continues to develop leaders and advocate for working people, women and children.

Her work is a reminder that the fight for justice is lifelong.

The 14th Amendment's guarantee of citizenship to all persons born in the U.S. is one of our nation's bedrock principles. The government cannot infringe on any child's right to freedom and equality because of the immigration status of their parents.

The Supreme Court must uphold the Constitution and not allow the Trump administration to disregard more than a century of established law. An amendment that has stood for 156 years should not be erased by one signature on one executive order.
