❤️ Meals on Wheels Wednesday | You Can Help End the Wait

Meals on Wheels is powered by more than the meals coming out of our kitchen. It takes staff, volunteer drivers, vehicles, fuel, food, supplies, and community support to get those meals from our Center to the homes of seniors throughout Bingham County.

Did you know we currently have seniors in our community on the Area Agency on Aging waitlist for Meals on Wheels services?

While we cannot control the waitlist, we can continue looking for ways to help.

Every donation to our Meals on Wheels program gives us additional resources to support homebound seniors in our community. Whether it's $5, $25, $100, or simply sharing this post, every bit of support helps us continue working toward a simple goal:

Making sure our seniors have access to the nutrition, connection, and support they need to remain independent at home. 💙

If you or someone you know is homebound and needs meals, please call us, even if you've been placed on the waitlist. We want to talk with you about your situation and see what options may be available.

💙 Want to help us End the Wait?

You can donate directly to our Meals on Wheels program through Venmo, cash, or check.

Donate through Venmo here: https://www.venmo.com/u/BCSCC

Please include “Meals on Wheels” in the note so we know where you'd like your donation directed.

You can also donate in person at the Center or contact us to learn about other ways to support the program.

Together, we can continue strengthening Meals on Wheels and being there for our homebound neighbors when they need us. ❤️

🍂 September is Here!

A new month means a new edition of the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center Newsletter! 💙

As we begin September, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who helps make our Center a fun, welcoming, and enjoyable place to be. From our dedicated staff and volunteers to the members and visitors who bring friendship, laughter, kindness, and a helping hand through our doors, thank you.

That welcoming environment is something I value deeply, and it is also something I expect from everyone who walks through our doors. We won't always agree or see things the same way, and that's okay. What we can expect from one another is kindness, dignity, patience, and respect.

I also want to remind everyone that if you have a question, concern, complaint, or issue involving the Center, its programs, policies, staff, volunteers, or another participant, please bring it directly to me. My door is always open, and I am happy to answer questions, clarify information, listen to concerns, and address issues appropriately.

My goal continues to be for the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center to be a place where people want to come to enjoy a meal, participate in activities, build friendships, laugh, connect, and feel welcome. Maintaining that kind of environment takes all of us. 💙

📬 I've shared my September "From the Executive Director's Desk" letter with this post, and you can read our full September newsletter on our website here:

A Place for Everyone. A Responsibility for Everyone. 💙

The Bingham County Senior Citizens Center is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all members, visitors, volunteers, staff, and guests. Our Code of Conduct was created to help ensure everyone can enjoy our programs and services free from harassment, intimidation, threats, disruptive behavior, or other conduct that negatively impacts others.

This policy is not about singling people out. It is about creating a community where everyone is treated with dignity, kindness, and respect. Differences of opinion are welcome. Disrespectful, disruptive, or unsafe behavior is not.

When concerns arise, it can be easy to focus on the outcome rather than the behavior that led to it. Our focus remains on addressing conduct, encouraging personal accountability, and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and safe. Actions taken under the Code of Conduct are intended to protect the well-being of all participants and preserve a positive experience for the entire community.

Our goal is not to punish people. Our goal is to promote respectful conduct, prevent unwanted or dangerous behavior, and ensure that the Senior Citizens Center remains a place where friendships are built, activities are enjoyed, and everyone can participate with confidence and peace of mind.

Creating a positive community takes all of us. If you witness inappropriate behavior, you can help by avoiding gossip, refusing to participate in harassment or bullying, encouraging respectful interactions, and bringing concerns to the Executive Director rather than confronting individuals or escalating conflicts. Respectful communities are built when individuals take responsibility for their own conduct and support the well-being of others.

I have also included a special edition of From the Executive Director’s Desk, along with a copy of the Code of Conduct, to provide additional information about the policy, why it was implemented, and what it means for our Center community.

If you have questions or concerns about the Code of Conduct, please give me a call or stop by and visit with me in my office. I am always happy to answer questions and provide clarification.

Thank you for helping us keep the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center a place where everyone can feel welcome, respected, and safe.

A Look Inside the Center: Why Do We Have Rules & Requirements?

Earlier this week, we shared that the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center is a privately operated nonprofit organization and is not owned or operated by Bingham County or the City of Blackfoot.

But being a private nonprofit doesn't mean we operate without outside requirements.

The Center works with and receives support through several different agencies, programs, and organizations. With those relationships come contracts, reporting requirements, health and safety regulations, funding guidelines, and other legal obligations that we are required to follow.

Sometimes that means we have procedures or requirements that may not make sense from the outside. While there may be different opinions about how something should be done, there are also times when we simply don't have the option to do things differently. Meeting these requirements is part of operating responsibly and maintaining the programs and services our community depends on.

Behind the scenes, there is much more involved in operating the Senior Center than what you see when you come in for lunch, play a game of bingo, attend an activity, or volunteer. Part of our responsibility is making sure we're meeting the requirements placed on our organization while continuing to provide a welcoming place for the people we serve.

Through all of those requirements, one thing remains at the center of what we do; our mission:

💙 To enhance the quality of life for seniors and others in our community through nutrition, housing, education, and social opportunities.

That will continue to be our goal and our focus. 💙

❤️ Meals on Wheels Wednesday | End the Wait

What does it mean when a senior has to wait for Meals on Wheels?

For many homebound seniors, Meals on Wheels isn't simply a convenient way to get lunch. It can be an important part of their ability to continue living safely and independently at home.

When someone is placed on a waitlist, they may be waiting for:

🍽️ A reliable, nutritious meal
❤️ A regular wellness check
👋 A friendly visit and social connection
🏡 Support that helps them remain independent at home

For some, the meal delivered by Meals on Wheels may be the only meal they eat that day.

That's why the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center is committed to doing everything we can to help our homebound seniors, even while they are waiting for services through the Area Agency on Aging.

If you or a loved one is homebound and needs meals, please don't let the waitlist stop you from calling us. We want to talk with you about your situation and explore what options may be available while you wait.

💙 Want to help us End the Wait?

Community support can make a difference. If you would like to donate specifically to support our Meals on Wheels program, you can donate through Venmo, stop by the Center, or contact us to learn about other ways to give.

Venmo:
https://www.venmo.com/u/BCSCC

If donating through Venmo, please include “Meals on Wheels” in the note so we know where you'd like your donation directed.

Every contribution helps us continue working to provide meals, wellness checks, and connection to homebound seniors throughout our community.

No senior should have to wait for a meal, a friendly visit, or the support they need to remain independent. ❤️

💡 Did You Know?

Despite having Bingham County in our name, the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center is not owned or operated by Bingham County or the City of Blackfoot.

We are a privately operated nonprofit organization that is open to the public.

Being a nonprofit means we exist to serve our mission, not to generate profits for owners or shareholders. Like any organization, we have expenses such as food, utilities, staffing, building maintenance, vehicles, fuel, supplies, and programs.

That's why community support is so important to us. Donations, sponsorships, fundraisers, meal contributions, volunteers, and community partnerships all help us continue providing meals, activities, Meals on Wheels, and other services to our community.

Whether you donate, volunteer, participate in a fundraiser, or simply help spread the word, you are helping us continue our mission. 💙

Thank you for supporting the Bingham County Senior Citizens Center!
