It's August and in a few short weeks our post will be setting up for our ten days of beer selling fun. We are looking for as many post members as possible to help support our booths, the front or the Grandstand and the back or better known as the Saloon.

If you want to help during those days, please come by the lounge after 4 pm and sign up. Maybe you can only do one or two days, maybe you can do every day, maybe you just want to come for one day. It's all good.

We will need help setting up and tearing down, but that only takes about 2 hours. If you are a member of Post 23 and want to get in some volunteer hours, by all means..... Come see us.

Good morning,
As we slowly bring the month of June to a close and get ready for the 4th of July, we want to remind our members that if you know of an individual who could benefit from being a member of the Legion take a few minutes to chat with them and invite them to a meeting or event.

Sometimes a Veteran, spouse or child of a veteran needs a safe outlet to just sit and visit with others who get them. Some are looking for ways to fill empty time with volunteering work. Others' might need a bit more in the way of services. Whatever the need... We need to be there for them.

As we get ready to celebrate our Nations 250th Birthday let's invite our family, friends and neighbors to participate in whatever patriotic event we can.... Let's share our Americanism with them and our youth who will one day be us.

Happy End of June.... Welcome July.

This week our little town celebrates its 125th anniversary of becoming a town. It takes a lot to make a group of people a town. It takes patience, understanding, goals and yes a bit of frank discussion at times. It's when the people learn to work together through both good and bad times that determines the fabric of the town.

America is going to celebrate her 250th Birthday. 250 plus years ago... which is literally only 8 to 9 generations ago. Think about it a generation is one group of ancestors whom we come from, it's our fabric, our history. Some of us can easily show our ancestorial roots tying us to the American Revolution. Some of us are more recent in when our grandparents got here, but regardless of when or even how we got here, we are all Americans.

As Americans, as Veterans, we have an obligation to not just celebrate our nations birthday.... but protect the very values that make us all American. We understand what it is to put our lives on the line to protect and defend. We understand what it feels like to put boots on the ground in a country that has not known freedom for a long time.

This week coming as you gather together with family and friends, as you set off your fireworks, or sit around and watch the local show over the lake, take time to remember why you chose to put on that uniform in the first place and why being an American is one of the greatest things you can be.
