Blackfoot Police Department

Death Investigation Following Police Response

Blackfoot, Idaho — On 06/24/2026 at approximately 4:52 P.M., officers with the Blackfoot Police Department responded to a call regarding allegations of stalking and a violation of a protection order involving an adult male subject.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on the alleged suspect vehicle on Parkway Drive in front of Taco Bell. As officers approached the vehicle, it was discovered that the subject had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers discharged their weapons during this incident. Officers immediately rendered first aid to the subject. The subject was transported via ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Bingham Joint Investigations Unit. Preliminary information indicates there is no threat to the public related to this incident.

No further information will be released at this time pending notification of next of kin and further investigation.

The Blackfoot Police Department extends its condolences to the family and those affected by this incident.

🚧 Parking Closure Notice – Jensen’s Grove 🚧
The northwest parking area near the disc golf course at Jensen’s Grove will be closed this evening.

Beginning around 6:00 PM, dirt is being delivered for the RC racetrack that will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, for this weekend’s Celebrate Blackfoot event.

We appreciate your patience as we get everything ready for a fun weekend! Please plan accordingly and use alternate parking areas during this time.

🐾 Help Keep Our Parks Clean for Our Kids! ⚾️
We love seeing our parks, soccer fields, and baseball fields being used and enjoyed by the community—and especially by our kids. ❤️
Lately, we’ve had an increase in pet waste being left behind on fields, and unfortunately, it’s ending up on children while they’re playing. This creates an unhealthy and unpleasant environment for everyone.
We’re asking all pet owners to please:
✅ Clean up after your pets
✅ Bring bags with you
✅ Be especially mindful around ball fields and play areas
A small effort makes a big difference in keeping our parks safe and enjoyable for families.
If the issue continues, the City may have to consider restricting access to certain fields to protect players and maintain safe conditions—we truly want to avoid that.
