Starting Monday there will be big changes at the Black River Ambulance Squad, but with the same familiar faces.
Two years ago we started the venture of adding paid staff to our ranks. For 50 years we have served the community with all volunteer staff, but those numbers are sadly dwindling. We have worked for countless hours attending countless meetings with local town and village officials, hearing the concerns of our residents…. What happens if you can’t get an ambulance out in my time of need?
Monday will start the first day with paid staff, and soon there after we will be looking to add per diem EMT’s and Paramedics to the ranks.
Alan Gaines has been with us since 1989. He has held multiple positions in the organization to include President, Vice President, Director of Operations, Assistant Director of Operations, and Board of Director. He has served as a Board of Director for the New York State Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Association, and has done our in house 3rd party billing since 1994. Alan is a certified NYS EMT-Basic, and holds certifications as a Certified Privacy and Compliancy Officer, Documentation Specialist, and ambulance coder.
Jonathan Gaines has been around the station since he was a baby, started running calls in 2003, and became an official member in 2005. Jonathan had held the position of Squad President since 2017, and Assistant Director of Operations since 2019. Jonathan is a Certified Advanced EMT, as well we a Certified privacy and compliancy officer, documentation specialist, and ambulance coder. Jonathan has also served as an EMS Deputy Coordinator for Jefferson County since 2019.
Alan will specialize as the Billing Officer, and Jonathan will specialize in facilitating the day to day business of the Squad.
Please join us in congratulating both of them.
