National Police Week

This week, we honor the men and women who put on the badge and answer the call, day or night, weekends, holidays, and in moments most people never see.

National Police Week is a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others, to honor those who continue to serve with courage and integrity, and to recognize the families who carry that burden alongside them.

Behind every badge is a commitment to protect, to serve, and to stand between danger and the communities they’ve sworn to protect.

To every law enforcement officer, we thank you for your service, sacrifice and dedication.

To the fallen—we remember. Always.

This morning I had the opportunity to spend some time at the Merrillan village-wide yard sales, flea market, and car show. What a great reminder of what makes small town communities so special.

Events like this are about more than finding treasures, classic cars, or great deals… they’re about neighbors visiting with neighbors, families spending time together, local businesses being supported, and communities staying connected
Thank you to everyone who helped organize today’s event, to the vendors and car owners who came out, and to all the people who make Merrillan such a great community.

It’s always good to get out, listen, visit, and be reminded that strong communities are built by good people showing up for one another.

📢‼️Tonight I want to address an important issue regarding basic operational equipment within the Sheriff’s Office.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has not had in-squad dash cameras in patrol vehicles since approximately 2015–2016, and we still do not have them in place today.

That means for nearly a decade, a standard tool used across modern law enforcement agencies has not been in place here in Jackson County.
Dash cameras are a critical resource for documenting calls for service, supporting evidence collection, and providing clear and consistent records of interactions in the field. They strengthen accountability, improve transparency, and protect both deputies and the public through accurate documentation.

I am aware there have been a variety of operational and budget considerations discussed over the years regarding this equipment. This item was not brought forward for repurchase until last year. Regardless of past circumstances, nearly a decade without this tool is too long for a modern agency.

This is a leadership issue and a prioritization issue. Essential equipment should not remain unaddressed for this length of time.
As Sheriff, I will ensure that critical operational needs are consistently prioritized and brought to completion.

📢IMPORTANT UPDATE!🚨Please Share!Today is an important day! It's the first day we can officially begin collecting nomination signatures!
This is the first official step in getting on the ballot and ensuring our community has a choice in the next election. To appear on the ballot, I need to collect 200 valid signatures.
Signing a nomination paper does not mean you are voting for me—it simply allows my name to appear on the ballot so voters have a choice. Please also remember that you may only sign nomination papers for one candidate for this office.
I’ll be out across the community collecting signatures today and in the days ahead—if you see me, don’t hesitate to stop and say hello. It would truly be my privilege to earn your signature and the opportunity to be on the ballot.
