We wanted to provide an update for youth and families regarding summer opportunities through the Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Labor.

In past years, these opportunities were offered through programs such as the Summer Youth Employment Program and Youth Vocational Exploration (YVE). Moving forward, the Department is working toward a new Summer Youth Workforce model focused on career exploration, skill building, and long-term goals.

At this time, funding for the 2026 Summer Youth Workforce Program has NOT yet received final approval through the Ho-Chunk Nation budget process. Because of this, we are not yet able to officially approve new summer youth placements.

If approved, the proposed program would:
• Run July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026
• Include placements Tuesday through Thursday
• Match youth with opportunities connected to their future goals and interests
• Provide workforce readiness and job skills training every other Monday throughout the summer

Planned training topics may include:
• Resume building
• Interview skills
• Workplace professionalism
• Career exploration
• Communication skills
• Workplace expectations
• Ho-Chunk Nation culture, history, and language

Training sessions are planned to be available both in-person and virtually through WebEx. Even youth who may not receive a placement would still be encouraged to participate in training and workshops.

We understand many families are trying to plan for summer, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience while funding discussions continue. The Department remains committed to advocating for meaningful youth opportunities moving forward.

If interested, please continue completing the interest form below so we can better prepare if funding is approved:

What a wonderful evening! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Youth Vocational Exploration Banquet; our amazing youth participants, their guests, and the supervisors who supported them along the way.

We shared great company, laughter, and stories over a delicious meal prepared by Wild Plume, featuring locally inspired flavors that made the night even more special. It was heartwarming to see everyone together, celebrating growth, hard work, and the bright futures ahead for our youth.

Thank you to our staff for all the preparation, hard work, and dedication to our participants, and to our Executive Director for the thoughtful idea to recognize our youth in this way. Each participant received a letter of encouragement, a certificate of participation, and a letter of recommendation to add to their portfolio.

We hope our Indigenous youth continue to reach for the stars and chase their dreams!

Your future is bright, and we can’t wait to see where your paths lead.
