Volunteer of the Month

Ken Edwards

Ken is a retired elementary school science teacher who moved to Black Mountain 17 years ago from Delaware. He enjoys going to the YMCA once a day, traveling (especially to Italy!), and hanging out with ‘the guys’ at Lookout Brewing and Old Town District. Ken has visited over 600 craft breweries! He is a collector of old sports equipment and memorabilia.

Ken usually goes to the library on Sunday and/or Monday mornings to pull weeds, prune, and clean up the grounds. Thank you, Ken, for all that you do!

Trash Talk

Tuesday, September 29th 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Join Buncombe County’s Recycling Coordinator to discuss all things recycling and composting!

Recycling: Learn what is and isn’t recyclable, how our local recycling system works, and how to best participate in our programs!

Composting: Learn about the Residential Food Scraps Drop-Off Program as well as home composting options. Buncombe County has resources and information for all residents to compost, whether you live in an apartment or have bears in your backyard!

This presentation includes an interactive activity for all ages. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come learn about our local waste diversion programs.

Save the Date!

Sowing Circle Presents: Collecting and Saving Perennial Seeds Workshop

October 3rd at 10:00 a.m.

Join us in the library’s Community Room as we learn the basics of seed saving, and then dive into processing a variety of seeds. Led by Barbara Harrison, Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener, participants will get down and dirty in this workshop and leave with a variety of seeds for their home gardens.

It's almost book sale time!! YIPPEE!! Saturday, September 12, 10-1, in the Black Mountain Library community room. You know the drill. A bag of books for $5.00. It's worth repeating.....YIPPEE!
