September 11, 2001 remains a solemn chapter in our nation’s history; a day of profound loss and lasting remembrance. Today we honor the nearly 3,000 who lost their lives that morning, the families forever impacted, and the first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation, their actions forever etched into this day.
We also recognize that the cost of that day did not end when the towers fell. In the years since, thousands of survivors, cleanup workers, and first responders have developed chronic respiratory and lung conditions, cancers, and other illnesses linked to exposures at Ground Zero and surrounding areas. For many, 9/11 is not only a stamp in time but a revolving door of illness and loss that continues to claim lives today.
We offer our deepest respect to the 343 FDNY firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty. Their actions stand as a lasting testament to the ideals of the fire service. selfless service and the absolute protection of human life, their legacy continues to guide every firefighter who wears the uniform.
As we reflect on this day, we stand united in the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service, upheld by integrity, unity, and the commitment that lies at the heart of the fire service.
We honor their memory. We uphold their legacy. We will never forget.🇺🇸
