Today marked the first 2026 ESSA Tribal Consultation Meeting on Education!

Superintendent Bachmeier and other NDDPI staff members had the honor of meeting with Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Chairman, Steve Sitting Bear, and the SRST Tribal Council members at the Standing Rock Tribal Chambers in Fort Yates.

These conversations are vital as we work together to prioritize the education of Native American children across North Dakota. We look forward to continuing this important work as we meet with all ND Tribal Nations.

Thank you to Chairman Sitting Bear and the SRST Tribal Council for your partnership. πŸ«±πŸ»β€πŸ«²πŸΌ

πŸ“£ North Dakota is seeking input from parents, educators, students, and community members on responsible technology use in our classrooms.

State Superintendent Levi Bachmeier, alongside legislative and executive leaders, has launched a statewide survey to gather public perspectives on how technology can best support student learning. The survey is open now through August 1.

The survey asks participants to weigh in on topics including:
πŸ“± Device use limits at the elementary level
🏠 Whether students should take devices home
πŸ–₯️ Monitoring software on school-issued devices
πŸ“… Virtual instruction policies and make-up days

"Educational technology should be a tool, not a toy. Students, families, and educators want technology that supports meaningful instruction while reducing distractions from passive use." – Superintendent Bachmeier

Survey results will inform policy recommendations ahead of the 2027 legislative session, building on the success of North Dakota's phone-free schools legislation.

Yesterday, we helped celebrate the achievements of Bismarck's Adult Learning Center graduates at their annual ALC Commencement. πŸŽ“

First Lady Armstrong attended as a guest speaker, inspiring graduates and guests alike, and two of this year's GED graduates took the stage to share their stories. ALC Coordinator Ashley Coles and ALC Director Joe Kalvoda proudly introduced honorees and presented awards throughout the ceremony. We are especially proud to recognize 46 English Language students who each reached a new level of achievement this year!

These graduates remind us every day why matters. Congratulations to each and every one of you! Your hard work, determination, and courage deserve to be celebrated. We can't wait to see what you accomplish next. πŸ’«
