The Native Forward Scholars Fund has announced that it is dedicating the entirety of a $50 million unrestricted gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott to expanding educational opportunities for Native students.
According to the organization, $40 million will establish a permanent endowment to provide scholarships for future generations, while $10 million will be awarded over the next five years to help more Native students pursue higher education.
Native Forward says the investment comes at a critical time, with scholarship applications increasing by 35% this year and many Native students continuing to face financial barriers to earning a college degree.
Founded in 1969, Native Forward has supported thousands of Native students through scholarships, student success programs, and leadership development. The organization has also launched a campaign to grow the endowment to $100 million, ensuring long-term support for future generations.
The announcement represents one of the largest recent philanthropic investments dedicated entirely to Indigenous higher education.
