ACS CAN volunteer, Kelly Buettner-Schmidt, shares her concerns about the impact the loss of the enhanced tax credits could on North Dakotans across the state: "These increases would hit North Dakotans across the financial spectrum, potentially landing on anybody who is not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare, or who is working at one of the nearly 50% of employers in our state that do not provide health insurance to their employees. Allowing these health care tax credits to expire would affect farmers, small business owners and service workers most especially. Twenty-seven percent of farmers, ranchers and agricultural managers buy their health insurance on the individual market, and over 90% of those workers have Marketplace insurance coverage."

Thank you to the North Dakota Monitor for reporting on this important issue. Read the full article in the link below 👇

A financial and health care cliff lies just ahead for as many as 35,000 residents of our state if enhanced health care tax credits expire.

Congratulations to State Senator Scott Meyer of Grand Forks, ND, on receiving the Outstanding Leadership in Healthcare Policy Award from the North Dakota Medical Association at their Annual Leadership Awards Meeting in Fargo.

Sen. Meyer has been a strong advocate for improving access to care in North Dakota. His leadership on policies such as SB 2280, addressing prior authorization reform, helps ensure patients can get the timely care they need.

Prior authorization reform helps reduce unnecessary delays in treatment, allowing cancer patients to begin lifesaving care without added stress or barriers. ACS CAN is proud to have supported this lifesaving legislation in North Dakota.

We’re grateful for Sen. Meyer’s continued commitment to advancing health policy that supports cancer patients and their families.

Last Tuesday, North Dakota advocate, Eniola Soetan, met with our federal delegation in Washington D.C.! At ACS CAN’s 2025 Leadership Summit & Lobby Day, Eniola Soetan shared her personal story about how cancer has affected her family and the reasons for how cancer policy can save lives in North Dakota.

Eniola Soetan met with Senator Kevin Cramer, Senator John Hoeven, & Representative Julie Fedorchak to push for stronger cancer policies that directly impact families back home:
🎗️Protect federal funding for cancer research and prevention programs
🎗️Improve access to and affordability of cancer screenings & early detection
🎗️Ensure patients can afford the treatments and care they need without financial hardship

Our elected officials heard firsthand how cancer has touched North Dakotans, and how these priorities save lives and protect families. Thank you to our volunteers & elected officials for working toward a future where cancer is no longer a deadly disease.
