ND Cares is pleased to welcome Assessment and Therapy Associates of Grand Forks as a Business Partner on Aug. 26, where they were recognized for their work with military families. Through funding from the ND Department of Health and Human Services, they offer FREE military couples relationship strengthening retreats for Service Member and Veteran couples.

“Today's military recognizes the value of family and its role in the service member’s life,” said Todd Re*****on, ND Cares Chairman. “They can’t focus on the mission if they are more concerned about what's going on at home. Whether working with deployed families or with veterans, the number one thing is being able to facilitate that communication within the family unit. Retreats like these are valuable.“

North Dakota ESGR also presented a Statement of Support from the US Department of Labor recognizing a business's commitment to the Guard and Reserve.

Thank you to all who made this a wonderful presentation: ND National Guard SSG Savanna Myers; Assessment and Therapy Associates Dave Jackson, Katya Mickelson and Michael Jowkar; ESGR Rep. John Oncken; ND Military Outreach Rep. Kelli Weiand and ND Cares Chairman, Todd Re*****on.

The next retreat is Sept. 25-27. Register at: https://tinyurl.com/mtarhjn5

🎙️ NEW EPISODE | Mission Transition: A Podcast for Veterans

What does healing look like after military service? For Army Veteran Sam Juan, the answer has been anything but one-size-fits-all.

In the newest episode of Mission Transition, Sam shares her powerful story—from 10 years in the Army and deploying to Afghanistan with Joint Special Operations Command to navigating the loss of purpose that followed her transition out of uniform.

She opens up about sobriety, therapy, art, storytelling, and the different tools that have helped her find healing and purpose along the way.

Her message is an important one: Be patient with yourself. Keep searching for what helps. And never stop looking for what brings you joy.

There’s so much for military families to discover with a free America the Beautiful Military Pass — and Yellowstone National Park is one place that belongs on the list.

From geysers and colorful hot springs to waterfalls and wildlife, a little planning can help your family make the most of every stop:

⛺ Book your stay early. Lodging and campsites fill quickly, especially during the summer.

🕰️ Check the geyser forecast. Look online or stop by a visitor center for predicted Old Faithful eruption times.

🥾 Take a few extra steps for the view. See Grand Prismatic Spring from the Fairy Falls overlook and visit Artist Point for a classic view of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

🦬 Watch for wildlife.
Bring binoculars, scan open valleys and keep a safe distance from bison, elk, bears and other animals.

🧭 Give younger explorers a mission. Attend a ranger program, join guided nature walks or pick up a free Junior Ranger activity book at any visitor center.

🦽 Plan for your family’s needs. The park offers accessible routes, overlooks and facilities for a range of mobility needs.

✈️ Use your military travel benefits. Compare eligible rates through American Forces TravelSM and ask lodging, campground and rental providers about military discounts.
